Notes from a Smoky Mountain Daydreamer!

Great Smoky Mountains by Richard WeisserTo walk the weather beaten trace.
‘Cross rushing stream, past rocky face,
The woes of worldly stress dismissed
And melt away into the mist!
    (R Weisser 2013)

I have made many trips to my beloved Smoky Mountains. There was a time when I would hop into the car and make the 500 mile round trip just to get away for the day.

Unfortunately, the rigors of the long drive combined with a strenuous hike have reduced the number of trips that I can physically make as each passing year takes its toll.

But after so many of these excursions my assemblage of memories is so exhaustive that I can travel to the mountains any time I wish … from wherever I happen to be.

All I have to do is close my eyes and I'm there!

When visiting my brother just outside of Greenvile, SC we always take at least one trip to the Smokies. My son's reacton at the age of 5 sums it up for me.  When seeing thesmokies for the first time he simply said, "Oh! It is so beautiful."

Thanks for the pictures.

Richard, one of the greatest things we have are our memories. Makes me appreciate the trips I've taken, where I haven't seen the entire trip through a camera lens, because my brain takes better pictures in some cases.

And you certainly can open those eyes and pour over all the photographs you've taken from journeys past to the Smokey Mountains.  I've never been, but almost feel as though I have from your photographs.

Indeed, I close my eyes and I'm there! Me too... I can't count the number of times I've taken drives over the Cascades to Eastern Washington to circle around the next pass, making the loop. Or head to the Penninsula by car returning by Ferry... and like a fine wine, the memories age so well... Excellent post!

Richard, I too have been there many times and have some great memories. Some of my favorites are the stream like in your photo with the smooth rocks covered in slippery moss. I spent many hot summers days wading in the cold, cold water.
