Who is reading your Active Rain blog?

What are they typing into that search bar?

I read a lot of posts here on the rain where the member is complaining that he/she is not getting comments but lots of views which they see in their stats here on the rain.

There are many more people reading your blog if it has good content than you might think. The consumers reading your posts are highly unlikely to log in and comment on your post. That is why there are many more views than comments on your posts.

I am surprised at how many members using the mybloglog widget on the side bar of their Active Rain blog but are not fully using it's capabilities. That is the widget that shows the photos of all the members of mybloglog that are visiting your blog like the one you see below.

mybloglog tool for blogging

I do not do any of the community things on mybloglog. I am there for one thing and that is too see what people are searching for and how they are coming to find my blog. For only $25 a year I get such a great tool. You should too. Of course if you are way more advanced and are using Google Analytics you will not need mybloglog. I like the ease and the simpleness of mybloglog and for $25 a year I think it is money well spent.

blogging for business on active rain

When you go into mybloglog click on VIEW SITE STATS.  You will get a screen that has 3 columns and date tabs at the top. You can view each day of the past week. I go to view about every other day. This is where I get many great ideas for new posts to write. The first screen you see above tells me what they people actually typed in to their search bars on Google, Yahoo and MSN to find me.

This screen shot is from the other day. I have been writing about short sales and getting listings from our Active Rain blog for sellers who need to do short sales. The words you see there are the actual keywords. This tells me that just on that day 2 people wanted info on this subject. This means that I should write more posts about short sales in Palm Beach county Florida. The more that I write about this subject the more content there is for the reader to come back to.

The other interesting thing is the amount of agents using the keywords with 'expired listing' in it. That is good news for me since that is one of the subjects that I coach agents on and I do customized expired listing packages for agents. This shows me there is a demand for my niche.

If you click on one of these searches you will come up with the actual search engine screen which shows you who all your competition is for that search. A lot of times I see that I am #6 or below and yet the searcher clicked on my link and not the others above me. This again goes to relevant content. In this situation for the search on 'short sales in palm beach county' our blog has the #1 and #2 spot on page one of Google. In case you missed about how to blog with longtail keywords click here to learn more.

Well, now that  you can see I've been here, I can't very well not comment!  :>)  I'd love to figure out how to put Google analytics on my blog, but haven't had luck.  Perhaps it'd be worth the simple $25 fee to have those stats... Thanks for another great techno post!  I just eat these up!

I have bookmarked this to come back and read it again, it is loaded with good information.  I have been noticing quite a few people on AR have the recent readers listed (mybloglog) but have no idea how they do that!

Click on the reader widget and it will take you to get your own and then follow the instructions to get the upgrade for the info. Katerina

Katerian - I did the same type of post months ago about mybloglog. Of course you have done a much better job of explaining it than I did back then :) The tracking feature of mybloglog is outstanding. It is one of the things I check everyday as part of my routine.

Thanks for the info!  I've looked at other sources to see where people have found one of my sites.  I find it very interesting too.  Especially when I am on page 2 or 3.  Some people actually go past the first page of search results.

Katerina, I have mybloglog and just last week signed up for the paid subscription. Now I wonder why I waited so long. What a fantastic tool, to see how people found you and what search terms they were looking for. Thanks for sharing, more people should sign up so they know what people are searching for in their area's.

Katerina, MyBlogLog is one of the easiest and most intuitive statistics programs out there for our blogs.  I've been using it since the beginning and $25/year is a no-brainer.  I check the log each and every day.
