Knowing the Bible 101

All my life growing up, I've always heard about the Bible. How wonderful and precious it is and that we all should read it.

Have you had the desire to know the Bible and decided "I'm going to read the Bible from one end to the other" and get started in Genesis (still determined) and get over maybe to Exodus and start to lose interest. You have good intentions but you just kinda lose interest because you don't understand what you are reading.

I did this myself a couple of times, but standing in the check out line at our local Walmart, a little book jumped out at me and really drew my attention......

The title is "KNOWING THE BIBLE 101, written by Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz. It is a small little paper back that is packed full of wonderful information.

I started to read this little book and it really just opened my eyes about SO many things and helped me to understand the Bible and to want to learn more.

So if you have the desire to read and understand the Bible, may I suggest reading this book. It won't answer all of your questions, but it sure is a great place to start. I have started going to a Bible study class and I'm so glad that I read this book,

Harvest House is the publisher...check it out.  Has anyone else read this book? Would love your feedback!

Patty, Thanks for your contribution. This is an important part of our career to help keep things in perspective and live a well rounded life. I like to take just a little reading each day and reflect on it. It's like eating an elephant, one bite at a time. "Expect the Best" Mike

Hi Frank: I know what you mean about CE...maybe we should make reading the Bible part of our CE huh! We would all benefit from that for sure!

Mike: I really like that about the elephant, good way to think of it. And you are right, it is such an important part of our careers. It really keeps me positive in my RE career and every other part of my life and we could all use something "positive" in this market!

Patty:  I have a book very similar to that and It really is a great support to the actual reading of scripture in the Bible.  Also, I have a wonderful study Bible that explains scripture and gives history and background which makes the reading much more meaningful.  I suggest to anyone who is not familiar with the Bible or is trying to read it through, to get a study Bible or a book like the one you suggest.  It really makes a big difference.  BTW:  Another good book is Who's Who in the Bible.  I picked this one up at Walmart.

Donna: I agree that a study Bible is a wonderful way to help understand the Bible. I have one by, Max Lucado that was given to me as a gift  and it has helped alot. I'm all for anything that we will help understand God's wonderful word for us!

Patty, another great way to learn the Bible is the Life Application Series. Pick a translation you like and read all the background of the various passages.

Patty I have not read this book as of yet.  I am looking for a great book such as this one to read.  On a scale from 1 to 10 what do you rate it.  Ten being the best.

I have read the Apocalypse Code by Hal Lindsay.  I enjoyed it very much.  Oh and BTW thanks for addingme as an associate.
