Check out this link to Michael's - it's all about really inexpensive, easy, and fast wall art you can make in a matter of hours.

If you can't find the scrapbook paper that meets your needs, check out www.paperaddict.com.  They have a HUGE selection, and shipping is quick.

If you want to make the pieces look even better, put a layer of glaze or semi-thick Modge Podge over it to give it a semi-gloss look and add the appearance of brush strokes.

I personally like the idea of using fabric.

I'm glad you all have found this to be a useful idea.

One of my clients is an amateur photographer, and she's having some of her photos from vacations to Europe enlarged to 8x8 at Costco for $1.50 each.  Instead of the scrapbook paper, we're going to mount these on the foam board.

This is really neat.  A client who bought a home from me has now decorated it and she did this in her son's room to have the abstract wall art match the room perfectly.  It made it look like a model  home, and I think it is a great idea for staging when a seller's artwork is to "specific" (I have that right now, and "specific" was a genius word my stager used!).  Thanks for sharing.  Cheers,  Harley

Phyllis - I was just at a Crate & Barrel outlet store, and I almost fell over when I saw a "make your own fabris stretched over a frame" wall art table.  They had varying sizes of frame lenghts - you could make a 12 x12, or a 24 x 16, etc.  Then they had dozens of bolts of beautiful and colorful fabric at about $7/yd.  I couldn't stay long to read the instructions they had printed, but just from looking at it, I'm guessing that you put together your frame, cut a yard of fabric (they also had a barrel full of scraps), staple it on, and then take it to check out.  I have no idea how much it cost, but I would guess no more than $15 for a completed frame.

I wonder if they have this at a regular Crate & Barrel, or is it just at the outlet?

I've used scrapbooking papers with existing frames where the picture didn't work with the room.  By just covering up the original picture (leaving the mat intact) with color coordinated scrapbook papers, cut down in size or shape as desired you can make something inexpensive to work in any room.

Simple and cheap and it doesn't ruin the original picture if you just tape the pages together on the back.

Kathy - I love your solution!  How clever!  Scrapbook paper these days are virtual works of art on their own - it's just a matter of choosing the one(s) that work best for your needs.

Thank you so much for sharing.  I've been talking about doing this for months.  We jsut recently used scrapbook paper to put underneath the glass of a tray.  It turned out great.

Monica, I saw your other post today and so, of course, had to come over to this one to get the full idea of what your were trying to convey. This pictures at the other house were great. Inexpensive ideas can sometimes make the best ideas.
