For the second time in three years, Chino has been named amongst the "100 Best Communities for Young People" by America's Promise Alliance, the largest alliance dedicated to children and youth.

"This is fantastic news for Chino," said Mayor Dennis Yates. "But I have to tell you that I am not totally surprised," said the Mayor.  "I know what we do day in and day out in this community and it's nothing short of a miracle and it takes a lot of help!"

As with all great undertakings, the City of Chino could not have accomplished this alone.  "Our community is built on strong partnerships fostered throughout all sectors of our City and our kids greatly benefit from the programs developed out of these collaborative efforts," said Mayor Yates.

The youth programs offered in Chino focus on many of the same priorities established by America's Promise Alliance which they call "the Five Promises in Order to Thrive" and they are:  a healthy start and future, safe places with structured activities, caring adults, effective education to build marketable skills and opportunities to help others.

To be considered for this prestigious award, the City was required to provide detailed information to the Alliance on existing community programs and initiatives that help deliver the "Five Promises" to the community's youth.

"We had no problem coming up with plenty of programs that fit the criteria," said Mayor Yates.  "With all of the programs and services the City has to offer, we truly have something to offer to every child in this community.  We want our kids to be successful and we are willing to find whatever resources are needed to make that happen," said the Mayor.

"I am so proud of Chino and the partnerships we have built that benefit our youth," said Mayor Yates.  "I would especially like to recognize and give thanks to:  the Chino Valley Unified School District, the YMCA, our many youth sports organizations, the Chino Police Department and the County of San Bernardino.  With everything we offer; the sky is the limit for our kids."
