Sometimes its the seemingly unimportant experiences that can have the most impact on our lives. Like, tossing a pebble in the water and watching the ripple action.
One day I had a little extra time that I chose to use browsing Active Rain. I don't know how or why I discovered Ed Rybczynski's profile; but, I ended up there. I read and was immediately fascinated. I am not going to fill you in on the profile, because I don't want to plagiarize his site. Nor do I want to give my own interpretation of the meaning, because what you gain could be different.
I visited the website referred to in his profile. I ordered "Crossroads". Then I forgot about it until I received his packet in the mail. Guess what? It arrived free without a request for funding. That alone is enough to knock your socks off.
I left the CD and wrist band laying on my kitchen table while I attended to other things. Later, my 13 yr old daughter came home from school and was sitting at the table. She picks up the wrist band and says, "I guess that's for me?" (She really fell into that one :-) I said, "I hadn't thought of giving it to you, but, I guess you can have it." She immediately put on the wrist band along with the other bands she was wearing.
I told her it had a story behind it, and that the story was more about Real Estate and adults not doing the "right thing", overcoming, and making a turnaround. I also mentioned that the statement on the band was correct. The Answer is NO. They had not intended to say, "Just say no." I mentioned to her that if anyone else at school saw it and wanted one, we could probably get more. The wrist band statement could apply to any and all temptations.I also let her know that the big "we" of the world is so focused on kids and teens doing the "right thing" that sometimes we forget that adults are faced with daily temptations, too.
Ed, thank you. This may have not been your intended result, but your work had a positive result at the grass roots level.
One of the great mysteries of life is knowing what impact we have on others' lives. I want to let you know you started a ripple in Long Beach, MS .
I've been wearing mine. My daughter is wearing the other one. I love it.
