The Second Phase of Getting Healthy

By

A few of you know that I was hit with Pneumonia mid-January this year.  It was soon thereafter that Stacey-Ann put up her "Get Healthy" challenge.

My first, out of three entries was:

Getting My Health On Here in the Rain

And certainly, I thought, after writing that post that I would be able to go back to the 24-Hour Gym at least . . . by NOW!

Not so fast Sparky!

Life happened again, and I am dealing with Pleurisy now.   And I'm sure it looks EXACTLY like the graphic used {rolling eyes}.

The "Pleura" is the lining of the lungs.  Basically, they become inflamed, irritated, just like the graphic {rolling eyes}.

But what the graphic doesn't show is how it hurts when you cough, laugh and sometimes, even breath.  I've never had a broken rib, but if I did, I would imagine it's kinda like that.  The pain I was feeling . . . thankfully . . . is getting better.

I had ear-marked March 1st as the day to go back to the gym, but I don't think so.  I'm going to give myself 2 more weeks of not exercising.  My voice is still very telling as well . . . my real voice blew out mid-January.

So with Pneumonia, Pleurisy and Laryngitis . . . I don't want a relapse of ANY of it.

My son read about Pleurisy on the Internet.  And I suppose this is sympathetic.  He told me: "Mom, if I didn't read a comment that someone wrote: 'I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy' I wouldn't have believed how painful it is."

I am getting better.  No question about that.

On the plus side -- I lost some weight.  I'd say that I had about 20 lbs. to drop, and I think I dropped 8 lbs. of that!  So that's the benefit of being ill . . . no appetite.  I'm eating losts of fruits, drinking lots of water, soups, etc.  Another plus!

When I'm better, the exercise will feel so GOOD!  I can't wait!

I have been thinking about you and hoping you were on the mend since your last email.  And not talking... being able to for that long would make me totally nuts.  Hope in a couple of weeks you are feeling much better and ready to hit the gym again.  It will help, but you are so right, you can't go too soon.  First of all you don't want to be near ANY new germs and secondly, you will need to gain some strength back.  Maybe start with just walking your pup again for a while.

Carla: That is a long time to be under the weather, and in such a painful way. Sounds like the slow and steady adding of exercise is indicated. More chicken soup!

Hi Brenda . . . I don't smoke.  That habit is long gone with.  I only started in 2009 due to all the stress of my medical ordeal but now this has stopped me in my tracks!  So, it's another PLUS to this too!  ;-)

Hey Hella -- Oh, gosh Hella, I bathe in chicken soup these days ;-)  I'm actually SO MUCH better, but not where I thought for March 1.

Carla-take care of yourself!  I've not had Pleurisy but I tend to get bronchitis.  Your body will tell you when it's ready to tackle the gym.  It's too easy to have a relapse so just let your body take the lead on this one!

Carla,  I enjoy reading your posts ... I like your sense of humor and positive attitude ... "Not so fast Sparky!"  Life does happen and does collide with our best laid plans.  You have had one knock out - drag out after another. You do need to give yourself more time. The gym will still be there when you are feeling better ... which I pray is soon.

My sister cracked my rib when I was in high school.  It hurt like Hell-0.

Carla,  Ain't life grand, always screwing around with best laid plans!  I wish you health and happiness QUICK!!  Does Pluresy go away or is it one of those that once you have it you are more suseptible?  I hope it is the former.  You have a great attitude and at least have had some benefit!

Warm Regards,

Maryland Mortgage Mama

Hope you get well enough to start exercising soon. Sickness is a hard way to lose the weight! You could start at a couple of extra stairs or parking a little farther out - nothing too strenuous but calorie burning. Obviously your lungs will let you know!
