Display your artwork CREATIVELY
If your home is like most you hang your art when you move in and even if it is hung to high or in the wrong location that is where it probably will remain until you move!
When I visit a home most often there is not enough art. And of course the reason most people don't have art is they believe that they have to "love" the pieces before they can purchase them. Big Mistake! Yes my art has taken a lifetime to collect but I had artwork/pictures until I found the pieces that I now have. So invest modestly in pieces that will help make your home interesting and that you like and fits with the style of home you desire. Then as you find your treasures replace them and your home will always feel and look like you.
For the clients that do have artwork usually the art is hung too high and is in a high line encircling each room. Art displayed creatively makes the art stand out more and will show off your space better.
Try to break up that "line" and vary the patterning and grouping of art by hanging a row of artwork diagonally with each piece staggered a bit lower or higher than the next.
Stack pictures on top of each other this is perfect for accentuating a high ceiling.
Create a triangularly effect by placing one above, one below and one to the side.
Group collections by an artist - together to create a great focal point of an artist
Hang pictures on different planes so that your eye goes up and down and travels around the room
Hang pictures lower than usual to draw attention to an architectural feature or seating area
Most pictures should be hung no more than 9-12" above the item that it is above. This will anchor the picture to that item and the artwork will not be floating by itself.
To get great ideas for hanging artwork look at decorating magazines and just think outside the box and display your art creatively!
