Trip to Belize - Part 2

After a very good nights sleep I awoke to the sound of birds outside my window.  I opened up the blinds and was greeted by colourful birds chirping in the trees and the magnificent sight of a cloudless blue sky and bright sunshine!  WOW - it was a very pleasant change to the cloudy, cold & white landscape I had woken up to the previous morning!

Walkway to the pier at The PlacenciaI got myself ready for the day, applying plenty of sunscreen and went off for breakfast - I didn’t want to waste a moment of this glorious day!  I took the pathway toward the main lobby and turned left toward to the beach and out onto the pier to the large palapa where the buffet breakfast is served.  I found a table out on the deck in the shade, made myself a cup of tea and ordered a wonderful fresh omelette.  It was an absolute delight to sit out on a deck eating breakfast in summer clothes feeling the warm breeze and remind myself that it was February!

After breakfast I met with Wayne, the International Sales manager for the Placencia Residence and Resort.  We were joined by Dave, a semi-retired farmer from Alberta who has built a home over in The Placencia Residences, who would be our 'chauffeur' for the day and a retired couple from Florida, Katie and Dick, who were looking for a new permanent residence.

Copal

After a coffee we all jumped into Dave’s car and set off to visit the development & surrounding area.  We drove out of the resort and turned right and drove along a well paved road in the direction of the Copal Condominiums.

The exterior of Copal is nearing completion, the elevator is scheduled to be installed at the  beginning of March and the finishing of the interior is underway.  Wayne wanted us to see the view from the Penthouse so, as the elevator was not yet installed, we all followed him up the stairs to the Penthouse level.  The original plan was to have two penthouses on this level however, they decided to make it into one magnificent suite at just a little over 11,000 sq.ft. and it was recently sold!!

The other floors of Copal will offer 4 suites to a floor - two-  2 bedroom suites and two - 3 bedroom suites. The three bedroom suites will be on each end of the building with the two bedroom suites in the middle.  All will have wonderful views!

The view from the Penthouse did not disappoint - stunning vista on all sides of the terrace - out over the beach, marina and the sparkling ocean beyond, over to the lagoon and out across the residences and down the peninsula.

View along the new runway

After visiting Copal we got back into Dave’s car and drove about 10 minutes up the road to take a look at the new private airport being built by the developer.

They have one final layer of concrete to put down, the control tower and the customs and immigration buildings are both underway so it shouldn’t be too long until there will be direct flights into Placencia.Developer.  This will be the Placencia International Airport with a 9200 foot runway to accommodate larger planes coming from Europe, Canada and the US.

Entry to the Placencia ResidencesAfter visiting the site of the airport we drove back to the Placencia Residences.  We entered through the secure gated entry.  Even though they recognized Dave - they did a quick check to see who else was in the car with him which was nice to see.

Dave drove us around the development so that we could see the magnificent homes that have been built along the canals and facing out onto the Lagoon.  The developers have done an excellent job of the Residences - certainly not a ‘cookie cutter’ neighbourhood.  Large, spacious lots with beautiful homes and lush landscaping.  Patterned concrete roadways and an uncluttered appearance as all the utilities are underground.

Dave was kind enough to show us through his home - a beautiful 3 bedroom bungalow with a double garage and backing onto a canal.  The great room featured high ceilings and large floor to ceiling windows and patio doors from the dining area out to the covered patio.  The kitchen had lovely high ceilings, loads of cupboard and counter space and stainless appliances.

The bedrooms were all a good size with large bright windows and plenty of built in closet space.  Ceiling fans in each bedroom. The master bedroom had an ensuite bathroom.  There was also an additional full bathroom for guest use.  Ceramic flooring. Solid wood doors throughout. Laundry room and plenty of storage.  I was very impressed at the construction and layout of the home.

After spending a bit of time at Dave’s place we headed back to the Placencia Hotel for a bite to eat at the Hotel restaurant and then having the opportunity to enjoy the resort for the afternoon

Stay tuned ... there’s more to come on my visit to Belize!
