Facebook Etiquette

Facebook etiquette is something that is always in question. What is the correct thing to do and what are things that shouldn't be done to follow Facebook etiquette?

Chad Hyams, the voice behind many of our webinars, is known for getting on his soap box and sharing his thoughts openly. When he was asked about Facebook etiquette he jumped onto his soap box and shared this information in a blog that he wrote about the 7 Deadly Sins of Facebook that we will sum up for you here.

 

1)The Terrible Typo
Chad tells us that one of the biggest Facebook etiquette errors is the simple typo. Facebook helps with this by showing misspelled words. Now it is up to you to learn the difference between their/there and they’re!

2)Frequent Photos
Everyone wants to be seen and heard and we know that a picture is worth a thousand words. Facebook etiquette tells us not to post a photo with every single posting just to increase our engagement. When you have a photo to post, say something about it and when you have something to say, just say it and stop attaching photos for no reason.

3)Tagging Trauma
This is a challenge as many people want others to notice them so they tag people in their posts and photos. Follow Facebook etiquette and only tag people when they really are in the photo or they really were with you.

4)Endless Events
Realtors please note this one. You live in a different state than I do so please stop inviting me to your open house! Learn how to use groups, lists and filters and learn some limits on who is invited before you are uninvited from ever being on my wall of updates. Learn Facebook etiquette.

5)Group Growing
Groups are a great way to engage. Please don’t just add people for the sake of adding them. Ask them, invite them or message them before just adding people to groups and follow some form of Facebook etiquette.

6)Twitter Talk
Je ne comprends pas ce que vous dites. Facebook etiquette tells us to speak the language of the platform. Stop speaking Twitter and remove the hashtags and @ mentions.

7)Missing Person Profile Photo
Social media is a place for us to share with each other and get to know each other. If I were to bump into you in Starbucks would I know what you look like or is your profile photo of the sun, a pet or even worse, a saying? Facebook etiquette is clear on this one, your personal profile is you, so let us see you! It is ok if you are in the sun, with your pet or even a family member.
