Dear Realtor® in San Antonio TX-Do I Really Need You to Help Me Sell My Home

Dear Realtor® in San Antonio TX, I know you really want my business because you are always asking for it.  But come on, Do I really need a Realtor® to help me sell my home in San Antonio TX?  Don't you just put a sign in the yard and then take a big chunk of my equity for doing reallyQuestions nothing?

Sincerely, Just Need to Sell

Dear Just Need to Sell,

I understand your concerns.  There's lots of rumors and mis-information to consumers on what Realtors® really do to help a home purchase.  Additionally, many times, those that need to sell figure they can save tons of money by selling their homes themselves or perhaps use a discount, flat fee service to get their home on the market.  In fact, there's lots of models out there that can be quite confusing to someone who just wants to sell and wants to gain as much money as they can from their investment.

Now of course, since I am a Realtor® in San Antonio TX, I highly advocate for the use of a Realtor® to assist you in the home selling process, and because I am one, you may think my answer is coming from a place of self interest.  I can assure you that it isn't.  Even before I became a Realtor®, (or even knew I wanted to be one) when I went to buy and sell a home I hired a Realtor®....

Why?

Because at the time, I knew zippo about buying a selling homes.  I wasn't trained and I couldn't imagine doing something that I didn't know how to do.  Now granted, there's lots of how to videos this day and age on YouTube...and there are probably even some on how to sell your home cheap or something.  I wouldn't doubt it.

But my philosophy stays the same.  I hire those that are trained on how to do something so that the job can be done correctly no matter what it is.

Why?

Because I have tried to "learn" how to do stuff on the Internet and tried those DIY (Do it Yourself) projects and I learned the hard way...I shouldn't have done it myself.  When you have to go back and have a professional fix the work you did yourself, it ends up costing you more in money, time and frustration.

It's the same with selling your San Antonio TX area home.  If you try and do it yourself or perhaps try to "save money" by going a cheaper route, often times you cost yourself way more money, time and frustration then if you just hired someone who knew what they were doing in the first place.

So, yes...I believe you really do need a Realtor® to help you sell your home in San Antonio TX.

And for my next trick, I will answer the Why You Need a Realtor® to Help You Sell Your San Antonio TX Area Home...stay tuned.

Great post!  We as Realtors hear this all the time, when most of us are really just trying to help the seller get their home sold with the least amount of stress for the most profit.  That is why I got into Real Estate.  Home ownership is one of the biggest decisions most of make in our lives, and it is so nice to see that most of us have chosen this profession to do just that!

Great post Brenda.  If only everyone would finally realize this and quit trying to wear so many different hats.  Stick to what you know and hire a professional for something as important as a real estate transaction.

Brenda, nothing can be more positive than the story of the founder of one of those sell it yourself sites, that tried to sell his NYC condo and failed, then hired a professional to sell it and got a higher value and sold quickly.  Excellent post and explanation on why a professional should be selling in anying market.

I have a marketing plan called "Carolinas Realty Partners 62 Step Action Plan To Get Your Home Sold." Once they get the idea of everything it takes to property position, price, and promote a home for sale they "get it."

Hi Laurie-That's exactly what most of us are trying to do :)!

Hi Brett-That could be true as well and helpful for them to understand.

HI Stephanie-Thanks :)!

Hi Paula-No doubt!

Hi Ed-I remember that and did a post...so telling.  The FSBO.com CEO selling through a Realtor...

Hi Nina-I would love to see that!  Do share if you want :)!  I imagine that indeed touches the surface of what we can do :)!

Yep! I've tried that DIY'er stuff too. Got paint ALL over the place, had a huge clean up. The time I invested to save some money could have paid for a professional to do it 2 times over. Lesson learned. Stick to what I know, and let others do what they do! :)))

It's hard for sellers to understand that not hiring an agent may actually cost them money. San Antonio sellers would be wise to heed your advice.

I have seen too many examples of sellers saving a few bucks by selling themselves, only to realize later they more throughout the transaction either due to price, mid-contract re-negotiations, repair requests, etc. HIRE A REALTOR!

Well said, Brenda.  You don't necessarily need a Realtor to sell your home, but if you want to get the best possible deal you probably need one.

Brenda - I agree with you. Selling a home is an expensive and large proposition and should be handled by a professional.
