Blogging on your personal website

Are you a regular blogger on your personal real estate website? If so, what running pieces do you do on a regular basis? I'm trying to get some more ideas for my blog as I want to begin updating it 10-15 times per month. I currently do a "Things to do in Saskatoon during the month of ________" series and a market update once per month. This last month I also did a piece with updates and current happenings with the Saskatoon city council. This will allow me to provide updates of projects and other things happening in the city in a format that is easily readible, but I'm thinking of only doing it every couple months.

In terms of regular posts that I don't consider a part of a series or a regular contribution to my website, I keep an ongoing list of topics. When I get a question from a client, or at an open house, or notice a piece of information that I'd like to share, I jot it down and then when I need to write I grab something from that list.

So what are your blogging habits, what regular posts do you contribute to your website and how do you come up with topics? Content is king, as we all know, and there's never been a more important time for content marketing in the Internet world than right now.

Susan-Lately I've tried to do three per week. Last week I did not make it. My goal is to have one real estate related post (maybe about a subdivison or market report), on about food, and a third about a local event that may be of interest to people. Good luck.

Blogging always has a familiar enemy: What content to write about. Katie Lance at Inman News suggests an editorial calendar. Come up with topics that you want to write about, and keep them general.

For instance, the flow that I am trying to keep up is this:
Mondays - Mortgage (FHA vs Conventional, What documents are needed, What are interest rates doing this month, etc)

Tuesdays - Community (Local events, businesses, etc)

Wednesday -  Neighborhood related (Post a listing in a particular neighborhood, do a neighborhood highlight with pictures/video, or if you don't have a specific neighborhood in mind, talk about things that affect neighborhoods like HOA issues, or do a market report, etc.)

Thursdays - FAQs - All of those questions you jotted down

Friday - Something fun. It can be anything. It can be about what you did this week (or last weekend), a local community event that is coming up, "10 most expensive homes in your city", "10 Cheapest Homes in your city", etc)

Saturday and Sunday you can post about open houses, catch up on a day you missed earlier in the week, or just take the weekend off. I try to write posts on Saturday and Sunday and schedule them througout the week based on my content schedule.

Susan,

I try to blog about articles that are most interested to my target market, people who may be interested in new homes or new home communities. Some are fun & interesting about things that happen in our communities, some are facts about our builders or new homes, some are about the trends and market. I always ask the question to my self, is it newsworthy and is it something that people would find interesting.

Good luck. Mark
