What Are You Willing To Give Up?

What Are You Willing To Give UpIf you want to make money as a real estate agent, you're going to have to do some prospecting.

Too Busy To Work

As I talk with agents, prospecting is one activity that isn't at the top of their priority list.  Some agents don't even feel the need to prospect on a daily basis.  And for others, when they get "busy", prospecting is the first thing that gets tossed by the wayside.  But if you aren't willing to do prospecting you better be willing to revise your goals because you won't reach them  Without prospecting you have to give up something.

What Will You Give Up?

At the beginning of the year you probably made a list of all of the things you wanted to accomplish this year...

  • Go on a nice vacation
  • Buy a new car
  • Buy a new house
  • Save for your child's education
  • Help a family member

Goals For The Year

You also probably made a list of the activities you were going to do in your business this year to reach those goals:

  • Make more phone calls
  • Attend more networking events
  • Go door-to-door
  • Work Expireds and FSBOs
  • Conduct a 1st Time Home Buyer Seminar

Reality Check

But now reality has set in...you can't seem to find a good time to schedule the seminar...it's too cold to go door-to-door and you called a few Expireds, but didn't have much luck.  As a result, you've eliminated these 3 prospecting activities.  In my world, you now need to eliminate 3 of the things you wanted.   The new car, saving for your child's' education, the vacation...which will it be?  You can't get what you want for free, it takes money.  To get the money you will need to do some prospecting...and if you're not willing to put in the work than something has to give.  So what are you willing to give up?

Let's Move!

Good points.  Thanks for the post.  My prospecting has been hit or miss this year and as a result the number of prospects is down.   I guess that I'll start digging for the gold again today.  Cheers!
