Have you been to The Blind Pig and Meat Bar Louisville?  Hopefully your answer was ‘yes’ because if you haven’t, you’re really missing out in my opinion.  Located in Historic Butchertown at 1076 E. Washington St. Louisville KY 40206, just on the outskirts of Downtown Louisville, the downstairs gastropub and upstairs Prohibition Era Bar are one of the finest one-two combos in the city of Louisville.

Meat Bar Louisville opened in 2011 and serves a variety of cocktails and seasonal drinks that vary with the Kentucky weather.  Staying true to their location and vibe, they incorporate Kentucky Bourbons and other spirits that really transport you back in time.  I liken it to being in an episode ofMad Men for those of you who have never been.  I’ve never had a cocktail here that I didn’t think The Blind Pig and Meat Bar Louisville was amazing, and even the strongest drinks they make are easy to sip and don’t have that sometimes overpowering taste of alcohol.  This is not a “bourbon and diet” type of spot.  One of the other things I personally enjoy about Meat Bar Louisville is the free snacks they provide in old, apothecary type jars for you to enjoy.  From wasabi peas to smoked almonds, these are just a few of the multitude of delicious, free delicacies they let you partake of.  “Drinks International” also recently named meat One of the World’s 50 Best Bars.

The Blind Pig, located on the lower level, opened in 2010 and is a must stop for my fellow carnivores.  Their specialty is house made comfort food.  They cure and smoke their own meats and even stuff their sausages by hand.  Not to be outdone by their neighbors upstairs, The Blind Pig also offers a vast selection of wines from around the world, an innovative cocktail list that includes a The Blind Pig and Meat Bar Louisville bacon infused rye whiskey Bloody Mary, and an extensive beer list.  If you go, I recommend getting the Meat Plate.  It comes with two types of bacon and three different types of sausage.  More than enough for one person, I suggest sharing it with someone or eating half and having the remainder for breakfast the next day.

The Butchertown area of Louisville is experiencing great revitalization that is a spillover from the developing East Market District (also known as NuLu).  Combined, the NuLu and Butchertown areas are becoming two of the hottest areas of Louisville to work, play, and live, and are increasingly popular with young professionals.  Having destination spots like The Blind Pig and Meat Bar Louisville choosing the area for their home can only help.
