Mona, I'm so glad you "Friended" me. Facebook is no pressure. Its just a way to sit back and hang out and catch up. Don't let it stress you out. If you ever need help, Erin is a whiz. She frequently helps me with things and of course I have to hear "Oh Mother".
Mona...
For business, I agree with Barbara. I would focus on Google+ more than FaceBook.
I have one area in Orange County that I always get turned around in too. Other than Aliso Viejo I know most of the county very well! On Facebook... been there for several years. My advice is "be interested" people who see you are actively interested in their ongoings are much more likely to pay attention to your posts. Good luck!
I treat facebook like any other business tool, and it takes time to learn how to properly use it to benefit business. After using it for about 6 years, I hope to learn one day :-)
Mona - FB for me is more of a personal and social tool, and less a business tool. I have a business page, and use it to some degree, but..... I love being connected to family and friends spread far and wide, and not really ready to invite my entire business world into my personal world... Good luck finding the balance.
Mona - Take a deep breath and enjoy it. Did they tell you to set up a business page (ackk!!). Unless you're going to operate your personal page strictly as a business page of course. I have my personal page where I stay in touch with my friends and then I have my business page where I post listings, sold information and other business related stuff. Once in a while I will cross over but not enough to drive my friends crazy!!
Have fun and PS - congrats on the Gold Star!

Mona, I've been on FB for several years and still don't totally get it. I do NOT let it become a time suck, and that helps.
Mona first let me say that I love Chad Hyams method of facilitating the IMSD. Secondly let me say that after 3 years of non-Facebook existence, Chad was the one that pulled the light switch to "on." Had it not been for the IMSD, I don't know if the concept of Facebook ever would have clicked.
As with all things, it's a learning curve. You just have to figure it out as you go. It's not too difficult. Suggestion: turn off notifications otherwise your email is going to be blasted with updates.
Just be yourself and use it whatever way works for you :) I'm not on there all the time but do like being able to keep up with friends, family and even past/current clients
YAY! Facebook can be pretty fun - you have to keep a look out for the "crazies" that use facebook for the wrong reasons - but I quite like it. I would be glad to help show you the ropes! I follow a couple of mass pages that provide BEAUTIFUL daily photos and quotes - bet you would love them.
Mona: While I understand that Facebook is vitally important to some, I have chosen for various reasons to do "Facebook light". I post on a business page with some consistency (typically once or twice a day) ... but keep much of the contact more personal in nature. Even if it's business, it's typically past clients, referral partners that I've known for a long time, family ... and so on. I tried at one point to make it more business and it just didn't seem like a good fit or comfortable for me. Not overly sure why, but it just didn't work. So I have a presence that is much more of a fit for me and it works referrals well. JMO, but I can't be everywhere and do everything well. Facebook is 2nd tier marketing for me ...

Yeah, but they were kidding. You can't be on Facebook and get anything else done. Welcome to the black hole! It is fun. I think you're on the right track. Just use it to be in touch with people you know and the way it works will gradually be revealed to you. If someone sends you something, for example, or shares it in a certain way, and you can't figure out how to do it, just ask them about that one thing. THEN GET AWAY from FB for a while! Before it sucks you in! Maybe go get coffee in Gatlinburg.
Look at all of these perspectives!
Carla...could have used the suggestion to turn off the notification thing about emails. Yikes!
Chad...you are the first person to convince me to give this a try.
Avoid time suck, avoid time suck...got it.
I am trying to grasp Google Plus but that is a mystery also...I keep plugging away.
Honestly, I think IMSD will teach me how to make a tool out of facebook instead of FB using me as a tool.
Mona, one thing I've learned about FB is that if you're away from it for a while, it changes. I try to drop by everyday, but it doesn't always happen. I have picked up clients through it though.
Mona, I also attended the same webinar - and I can say, I am simply blown away with what I learned in this one hour!
(In fact, it will be difficult for me to get rid of those bad habits of Social Media....)
Mona - The "great" thing about FB is that as soon as you figure it out, they'll change it on you. That said, it does get easier.
I'm on FB almost from the very beginning. Very soon I got the limit, since I accepted everyone. Soon I started to delete a lot of people, sorting them in groups, connecting to some.... I always felt ok with FB, while Twitter was always a mess for me.
Good luck with FB:)
Mike, that seems to be the trick. Check daily and briefly.
Praful, it was a great webinar. I might be luckier than you in this one respect...I haven't learned bad habits yet ;-D
Christine, great!
Inna, I'll bet you've seen a lot of changes.
