- Do what you can to make your email go into your customers' inboxes. - You need to get your emails to pass ISPs and not get tagged as spam messages. If they get tagged as spam, your recipient may never see them. Check with customers to see if they are getting your emails.
- Your company logo needs to be included. - This makes you look professional and familiar to contacts. Keep things consistent.
- Send emails in both HTML and text formats - Make sure your emails are viewable in both HTML and text forms. Otherwise, if your contact's email doesn't support HTML, they won't be able to read what you're sending.
- Attachments - Bad! - Using attachments in your mass emails cause them to be instantly rejected by most spam filters. Today, most people are too suspicious of attachments and won't open them for fear of getting a computer virus or malware. Emails with attachments are almost always deleted without reading.
- Call to Action - Consider offering a freebie, rebate or other offer in your email campaign. The goal is to get your contacts to call or email you.
- Graphics are pretty but not always readable - Make sure that your e-mails are still readable even if the recipient chooses not to display the graphics. A great way to do this is to utilize ALT tags so that replacement text will be displayed even when the images cannot be displayed. It's a good idea to place the bulk of your images near the bottom or side bar of your e-mail.
- Bonus Tip - Makes sure your emails are easily read by handheld devices. Many people check their emails via their iPhones, iPads and other handhelds. So, it's going to be very important that they can read what you send. Otherwise, your email marketing efforts could end up in the "round file".
