Open House on Super Bowl Sunday?

Lombardi TrophyYesterday while returning from my son's soccer game I saw a couple of lonely open house signs on the side of the road.  I was wondering how many folks decided to skip the Super Bowl and go to an open house.  I am sure those agents got the appreciation of their sellers, but not much else.

A couple of years ago I actually did an open house on Super Bowl Sunday.  I must have been out of my mind.  I was open from 1pm to 5 pm.  Not one visitor until halftime.  There were several homes around it that had large Super Bowl parties.  At halftime several of the attendees next door came to see my open house.  They were not interested in the home; they came to see if I had food.

So for those agents who held their listings open yesterday, you have the respect of the home owners.  I hope you brought a book or were able to watch the game.

This is very true because the focus was for the game only.  I have better luck early morning open houses.  They work great.

Randy,  Super Bowl Sunday is practically a major holiday now.  With the red carpet coverage this year who knows maybe it will be turned into a holiday!

I was out showing properties yesterday from 10:30 am til 5:00 with 3 different buyers and saw only a handful of open house signs.  Two were agents in my office and they told me they had NO traffic.

Super Bowl Sunday is like an unofficial holiday...I guess I was just not too committed. But, it was a great game!

Randy, I made the mistake of holding an open house on the Sunday the Cowboys played the Patriots. Silly me...not one person stopped by. There wasn't even any cars going up and down the street. I learned then that there's hardly anything bigger than football in North Texas! LOL

Gary B. have not seen early morning ones here.  I did a couple of mid day ones when I had too many listings and ran them back to back.  I did not have much luck with them here.

Michael - it is bigger than most holidays in Hawaii.  The roads were empty.

Lorrie - I am sure that is consistent with what those few agents working yesterday found.

Gary W. - I should be considered a holiday here.

Linda - The Cowboys schedule should always be on your calendar.

Sundays are generally only good in the morning here - most of our traffic is from vacationers so, they leave on Sunday generally - Saturday is always better here Super Bowl or not

Randy, yesterday not one call on any adds. In New Orleans homes for sale were not a priority. We had Mardi Gras and Super Bowl to compete with. The good side is any one who would have call I would have been all on them for they would have been serious I would think.

Frank - I spoke to my clients, they all knew this weekend would be a waste of time.  Next weekend is the Pro Bowl here locally.  It will not be as bad, but will still be slow.

Hi Randy - I am a little on the game with this one but I did hold a town home open on Sunday from 2-4pm EST.  And I had two quite interested folks come in.  As a result I have two appts scheduled this week by their agents.

Virginia - Congratulations

The timing for us was that the game started at 1:30pm our time and open houses started at 2pm.  Bad plan.

Randy,

I did an open house from 2-4 PM CST and four groups of people came by.  It was also cold and rainy.  I was surprised by this myself!  LOL
