Oz the Great and Powerful at Showcase in Worcester, my review.

Last night I traveled to Showcase in Worcester to see a new movie: Oz the Great and Powerful.  This retelling of the Wizard of Oz has just hit the theaters this week and I wanted to get the first look at how it measures up to it's long standing heritage and spin offs.  I also decided to see it in 3D to get the full sensation of the visual affects I was expecting.

We all heard the story of Dorothy Gale and her adventures in the land of Oz.  But we know very little of the Wizard Dorothy went to see in the Emerald City.  We know that he too came from Kansas and he traveled on a hot air balloon.  Oz the Great and Powerful is a story of the Wizard and how he came to be.

Without giving too much away, there are a few twists and turns to the old story.  The witches have too been better revealed and their background further explored.  Rachel WeisZ, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams all add their own charm to the story.  James Franco, the Wizard, al be it portrays the conniving, self centered character well, at times over acts and pulls me from the magic that is the story of Oz.

The Cinematography is fantastic!  And many of the visual affects are stunning.  But as a whole  I found the acting weak and the story line dragging.  Oz the Great and Powerful at Showcase in Worcester - my review is watchable.  I give it 3 out of 5.
