I'm Sorry But I'm Meeting an Agent Right Now to See the Home

I got a call yesterday morning around ten o'clock, but I missed the call.  I didn't hear the phone ring at the time, Missed callsbut a few minutes later I heard the phone ring and couldn't get to it.   By the time I got to the phone, I saw the missed call indicator and a voice mail message indicator.  While the phone was in my hand it rang and I was able to answer it.  It was a rental prospect that I ended up referring to another agent.

But here's the deal.
The calls were so close together that I assumed that the 3rd caller was the same person that had left the message.  This morning I noticed that the voice mail indicator showed that I had voice message.  I figured that I just forgot to delete it from yesterday so I checked the message and lo and behold it was a buyer prospect that was interested in a particular house.

So I call her shortly after 8am this morning and guess what?  She was standing in front of the home that she called me about and was waiting for another agent so show up so they could view the property.

I dropped the ball on that one, but it happens on occassion (rarely with me, but it does happen) and I can deal with that.  But what really bothered me was that this person applied for a rental property from me about a year ago and she remembered me and chose to call me first.  I felt bad about that but I understood that she moved on to seek another agent.   It took me a whole day to call her back and that's unheard of for me.  I typically return a call within minutes and at the very latest within in hour unless there are extenuating circumstances.

I'll be a lot more diligent from here on in when it comes to checking my voicemail messages.

Good Morning Charita, it happens..no matter how hard you try, we're human! Sometimes phones play tricks on you too. I've gotten voice mails when my phone didn't even ring and did not register as a missed call. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.

Rebecca I'd consider that among our list of best practices.

You too Beth? And on occassions, I have checked all voice messages and the indicator won't go away for days or until I call T-Mobile.

Charita, here's what I have come up against.  My old "Blackberry" was THE PHONE!  When I had a missed call, voice mail, etc, I got a light beeping at me.  With my Android phone, there is no flashing light, and the system it uses to alert you can be slow at times.  I have missed important calls as well.  Now that I do most everything on my IPad, I just may go back to a Blackberry.

Jean I hate to hear that.  Not being alerted at all is a business breaker for sure.  I have been wanting to GIVE UP the Blackberry forever and was just on the cusp until I saw the new Z10 that is supposed to be out this month.  I'm giving the Blackberry one last shot.

Oh, man, Charita - what a bummer!  Don't you just want to kick yourself when that happens?  Especially because in this day and age, everyone is so used to being able to get ahold of us instantly.  I'm so sorry this happened!

RATS! I hate it when something like this happens. :( One of your great characteristics is that you simply learn from mistakes, and refuse to let them drag you down, or try to define you. You ROCK. Charita Cadenhead!!

Exactly Brenda, for example, I have this bad little habit: I like to take a shower every day.  Unfortunately there are times I get those calls during shower time.  The alternative:  Never bathe.  And that is NOT and option.

Just my little warped humor everybody.  No offense.

Debbie I know right?  I am just glad that I have learned not to dwell on stuff like that. And yeah, it was really cool that I got one back for the one I lost.

Live and learn . . . we all lose a few, but you seem to be getting some activity which is good.  And it was Sunday, the caller was a tad impatient, no?!?  Yes, we do work weekends, but the 24/7 is just a little much.  If I called someone on a Sunday and didn't hear back from them, I would think  . . . Hmmmmmmmm I called them on a SUNDAY!
