Don't munch it! Savour...

Normally I’m a homebody on Sunday but I got an invite to join an event at Chocolopolis in Seattle. My friend and coworker Barbie Van Horn hosts a monthly event at different shops around Seattle that feature artisans from around the globe that create fine chocolates from bean to bar.

Escazu bar made with Venezuelan dark chocolate.

As many of you know through my blogs, Barbie and I have held many of our social media networking events and workshops at local chocolate shops. It’s been a lot of fun mixing business, social media, networking and chocolate.

The cool thing at this one was we all bought a chocolate bar that looked intriguing, then we broke them up into bite sized pieces so we could all share and experience a variety of different cacao from Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, the Caribbean, África, and Madagascar.

Wonderful events like these remind me that “local” means something so different than it did before social media. People collect around ideas, causes, passions, and interests. That’s the new local.

White Chocolate from Ecuador by Askinosie.

Fine Chocolate is Barbie’s passion and she has made many friends with chocolate lovers, cacao farmers, and fine chocolate artisans from around the globe. These networking conversations lead to many opportunities. I love witnessing first hand this birth of possibility. It's a great example of connecting in this new age.

ATTENTION do not eat, but savour.

Definitely the thing to do with great chocolate is to savour it. Just let it melt in your mouth and enjoy!

Well... there's one exception. Absolutely the hottest thing to hit my tongue in like forever (yet strangely addicting) was Do Not Eat This Chocolate, from Lillie Belle Farms. Read the wrapper carefully (an over-generous helping of Aji Amarillo chilies and a splash of Chili Arbol) and take it seriously! Then be sure to pour yourself a tall glass of ice cold water before you taste it.

The hottest chocolate I have ever tasted! Do Not Eat This Chocolate, from Lillie Belle Farms.

You’ve been warned! :O)

Rene' - Networking at a chocolate shop seems like a really great idea!  I am without a doubt, a self-proclaimed chocoholic.  I'm irreverent about it. . .Intervention won't work - No rehab is planned!

René, How do a finagle in invite to one of these events?  I love dark chocolate and have enjoyed several from many places. The chili chocolates are wonderful, if you're ready for them.

Rene - I do love chocolate. Never met a chocolate I did not like.  I think the real point you make that, "Wonderful events like these remind me that “local” means something so different than it did before social media. People collect around ideas, causes, passions, and interests. That’s the new local." got missed.

The Isalmic Spring was largly an event of social media.  You do not get much more powerful than overthrowning a governemtn and it wasempowered mostly by to social media.

Hi Rene,

Yummy that chocolate looks so good. I like to put a piece in my mouth and let it melt. I wish I was nearby but will be in Seattle in October so I may stop in at the store.

Hi Kristin... If you know Seattle at all, it's really easy to find. Just up on Queen Anne Hill north of the Seattle Center...
