Yesterday, I was reading a blog by John and Erma Nelson of Alamo Heights a suburb of San Antonio. In the blog, the schools of Alamo Heights were mentioned. Although, I did not live in Alamo Heights I was zoned there. I took an Algebra class there the summer before my freshman year in high school. I had been so “advanced” I was put in a class in 8th grade where you teach yourself and grade yourself amazing how I made an “A”. I then panicked and fessed up to my mom that I really felt I was weak in math and probably need to go to summer school before I went to high school. Alamo Heights is a really neat high school. I had a teacher named Mrs. Hamilton she was a tiny thing and although she was young she dressed like a proper school “marm” you read about. She wore the old fashioned suits and hair up in a bun. I always wondered why she did this as she had absolutely gorgeous red hair and was very thin. She not only was a fantastic algebra teacher she taught me what I consider my 1st life lesson and I am thankful I recognized it as such. She told us, “Always be stingy with your time because you can never get it back.”
I remember thinking that was deep and so powerful. I must say I have thought of that over the years and I think it is always important especially it is most important when you have little ones. I spent all the time I could with them as I was a working mom. I knew that one day they would grow up and have their own busy lives and they do. So, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart Mrs. Hamilton wherever you are.
