Tuesday February 5, 2008 is the Presidential primary election here in New York. It is Super Tuesday and primary elections will also take place in 23 other states across the country.

In New York State only registered Democrats or Republicans are eligible to vote in primary elections. Polls in New York City are open from 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

While the Republican candidate that wins the New York State primary wins all 87 delegates at stake. Another 14 GOP delegate slots go to top state Republican leaders.

On the other hand the Democrat that wins New York doesn't win all the delegates. Voting results in the state's 29 individual congressional districts for the presidential primary will determine how 151 of those delegates are apportioned.

Under the complex plan used by the Democrats, any presidential candidate who wins at least 15 percent of the primary vote in a congressional district wins a proportional share of that district's delegates.

Each district in the state has five or six delegates at stake in the primary. Then, after the primary, New York Democrats will stage a state convention at which 81 other delegates pledged to support individual candidates will be selected based on the share of the vote won by any candidate who gets more than 15 percent of the statewide vote in the primary. The convention will also choose four unpledged at-large delegates to go with 24 members of Congress who get automatic national convention delegate spots as do 20 top state officials and party leaders such as the Governor.

Unfortunately the "Lame Duck" President George W Bush still has 11 more months in office. He presented his 2009 $3.1 trillion budget deficit today. Who ever takes over has a big mess to clean up and needs to change our fiscal spending to close the gap between revenue and spending.

The Bush Legacy will be DEBT! DEBT! DEBT! and more DEBT! His $3.1 trillion Deficit! is his legacy.

The 2008 Presidential election is an important and exciting election. So get out and vote.

I won't voice any political opinions other than what you said: Vote! Your vote only doesn't count if you infect others around you with that same attitude.
