As Inventory Decreases the Sellers Market Arrives

With inventories rapidly decreasing across the country news reports are touting "It's now a sellers market"

In my area of Southeastern Massachusetts this is definitely true. While its not a sellers market like we had some years back we are seeing multiple offers and home prices on the rise. Low interest rates and the public's awareness has been fueling this fire.

Many area towns have seen inventories depleted by as much as 30% in this area! Basic laws of supply and demand say this will give rise, and it has, to home prices. Foreclosures are quickly dropping off and short sales while still quite common have been too.

All indicators point to a strong Spring market and a continued rise in prices. But as we all know the political front has some instability and the feds buying of mortgage back securities is a big part of the rise. This can end at any time, and when it does rates will rise as banks will need to make these attractive to institutional investors once again.

Hopefully this rise will put enough equity back in the market and momentum will continue into at best a normal market with gradual increases in equity.
