Kittson County, Minnesota needs job creation in order to survive.  And help is needed in a hurry.

The 2006 Census data tells the story.  The population of Kittson County, Minnesota has dropped below 5000.  The median price of a house in Kittson County has dropped to under $30,000. the lowest in the State of Minnesota at present. 

A border crossing site in the county which once brought traffic to and from Canada has been closed.  The town of Northcote has lost its grocery store, gas station and post office.  Towns like Hallock, the county seat, and Kennedy are struggling to keep jobs and hold onto their population.   

Residents of Kittson County want Governor Pawlenty and the Minnesota State Legislature to take notice.  They argue that there is opportunity for businesses which would consider relocating to the area.  At stake is the survival of an entire county.

Maybe the national political candidates who visited Minnesota this past weekend should have made a stop or two in Kittson County.

Eric - What was the main source of jobs in Kittson County before the decline? Sounda like a ghost town in the making.  Very sad.

Kittson County is largely agricultural.  It's in the northwest corner of the State, close to North Dakota.  There is a Polaris (snowmobile) plant in the next county, but Kittson has lost all of its significant industrial enterprises.

It is very sad.  Areas like these are suffering from the rush to send manufacturing jobs overseas.  These people desperately want to work and stay where they grew up.
