Hello colleagues, friends and clients.

I urge you to please go to this webpage, read and consider signing this petition and help spread the word.

http://www.petitiononline.com/ceusnow/petition.html

It basically demands that building contractors do something many other professionals are required to do: get proper training and education.

Ongoing and continuing education in the building sciences has become an essential part of producing buildings that work, buildings that keep their occupants healthy and safe, buildings that perform for the 21st century and beyond.

Sometimes you have to be grassroots! This is your opportunity to make a difference.

Please pass this link along to anyone and everyone you know that you think believes in demanding the public have access to properly educated contractors. Even pass it to those you aren't sure about! You just never know who will help.

Thank you.

Hi stacey it;s true that builders are not generally required to have continuing education courses which seems odd. I have had my GC license in michigan for over 5 years and have yet to take a class, but then again I dont build either I hire people to do that, but I know code.

The state of Florida has very strict licensing policies for general contractors.  The testing is rigorous and difficult, continuing education is also required.  Hopefully, AZ will get on board to protect consumers.

The problem I have with "code" is that it is out-dated and often does not address region and/or climate issues.  You can't build an Arizona house the same way you would build a Florida house for instance.

My typical residential projects involve mostly high-end ($500,000 & up) homes that are less than 3 years old, that have "failed" miserably.  They all somehow "passed" inspection and often times were built to code, which in my personal opinion is the bare minimum standard of building and generally only addresses major safety issues...

Florida is definately a good role model for other states with regard to obtaining and keeping a general contractor's license.

At a bare minimum, all states should require that builders have a basic understanding of current building science principals before allowing them to have at it.

Thank you for your comments and I urge you to sign the petion.
