Some excellent advice from Kathy Streib of West Palm Beach, FL about staging a home.  Or more specifically the de-cluttering phase of staging a home.  This is often not an easy task, but it will be well worth it for the selling process.

Home Staging FAQ’s-Palm Beach County- What Do I Do with Everything You Told Me to Move?

When I speak with the many great Realtors we have here in Palm Beach County, the 2nd thing they tell me after “I questionhave a new listing for you to look at” is...........

“But they have so much stuff...you have to help them.”

And after I meet with you, I know that the next thing you’re going to say to me is....

But what do I do with everything you’ve told me to move?”

1.  Throw Away what you or anyone else wouldn’t want.   Sometimes things have to be tossed.  If it cannot be recycled, repaired or donated then toss it.

2.  Have a Party!  You heard me right.  One of my clients placed all of the items she no longer wanted on her dining room table and elsewhere throughout the house.  She then invited her children and some friends over for a “Take it now or it’s gone” party.

3. Start packing!  You can’t possibly use everything you have in your home every day and since you’ll have to pack it when you move, why not start now.

Note- Check out Craig’s List for moving supplies, such as boxes and paper.  Some people will give them away or you may have to pay a small amount for them.

4.  Donate!   Many people are in need of items or could use what you have.  When you want to hold on to that dress you have that you no longer wear, think about the many who truly could use it.  This is the best way to rid yourself of those items.

5. Profit from it!  This is not for everybody but many people sell items all of the time on Craigslist and eBay.  Those $5 or $15 sales can add up.  However.... make sure you do your due diligence.  Screen who calls and wants to come over to buy your 20 year old electric skillet!

6.  Hide it!   There are some items that you just have to keep around for your daily living, however they don’t have to be in plain view of your Buyers.   Purchase inexpensive bins to place under your bathroom sink for every items you use.

7.  Store it!  Off site storage is not as expensive as you would think and you can typically rent storage month-to-month.  Don’t think of off-site storage as a forever thing.

So..What do you do with everything you need to move ? Ditch it,  donate it, sell it pack it, store it or hide it!
