It is great to be part of the big old RE blogosphere both inside and outside of ActiveRain, but real estate is local.  I hope I do not alienate local bloggers by memeing them... depends on how they take it... chain letter or game of tag.  I like to think of memes as tag. 

The "My other blog is..." group is there for anyone who wants to keep other members abreast of what's going on, on their other blog.  Maureen Francis used to do the monthly blog tours, which got people from ActiveRain visiting one anothers blogs.  This meme obviously does that too.  Some people do a great job of using ActiveRain to complement what they are doing on another blog.  A few people have used the "My other blog is..." group in a way I don't agree with, just republishing what they wrote on their other blog on ActiveRain... I don't get how they would get traffic for their blog that way, by adding a link to the AR blog at the bottom?  Someone goes there and there is nothing different... not going to stick around.  At least as the moderator it looks like spam when people use the "My other blog is..." group that way, but many people use it to promote their blog or to talk about blogging on various platforms. 

I like that ActiveRain is not isolationist.  I know it really surprised me at first that you could talk about other blogs, that Mary McKnight, Jim Cronin and others were involved. ActiveRain  sponsored the event  last summer... the apprentices thing where Tizsa, Ines, Kevin T, Mary Pope-Handy, Teri Lussier, Jackie, Kelly... I forget who the rest of the apprentices were competed.  Each built a blog "outside" of ActiveRain to compete.  If ActiveRain chose to be closed to interaction with people who blog outside of ActiveRain, it would probably not have grown as quickly or offered as much to the members.
