The Discover By Accident Principle With Other People

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Photography BudThere is a fancy word in the dictionary called "serendipity." It so applies to bumping into people at random in life or planned meetings of like minded people like training classes, meet-ups, social get togethers, or conferences. There is a

Discover By Accident Principle.

Do you know it? It says you can learn something from everyone.

It may be more a hit and miss with strangers and those you think initially you have nothing in common with. It may require a little detective work on your part, asking yourself, "WHAT can I learn from this person?" I have laughed myself sometimes concluding I learned what a bad example they were in life. But other times I have learned lessons, learned from their experiences, admired a personality trait, etc.

Now getting into your birds of a feather group, your business, blogging groups, networking circles, hobbies, etc. your learning TAKES OFF. I had a client with similar smart phones and we EXCHANGED APPS.

You never know WHAT you may learn from another person, but trust that there is SOMETHING TO BE GLEANED if you just pay attention, and SHARE OPENLY. We are all in this together. Make the most of the touches back and forth with the people (or orangutans) you meet in life.

Hi Gary,

This is so true ... I have the same attitude as you!  I learn something from everyone I talk to ... and I intentionally talk to lots of people everywhere :)

Gary, Some people we learn more from than others. Those that are a wealth of knowledge we like being around.

Gary- I always love your graphics!

Lessons are always there to be learned- the question is whether the time is right for us to learn them, and whether we are open to the lesson.  I find this true with yoga- there are a couple of instructors whose classes I don't care for, but sometimes due to my schedule, those are the only classes I can take.  I try to remember that there is always a benefit, even if I don't like the way they teach!

It's not surprising to find things of interest in others within a group of like-minded people.  The real fun is in finding things of interest where you don't expect it.

While out boating on Puget Sound I often observe the current by watching the birds as they float on the water. I don't have to think very hard to see how nature can help me...

I actively look for this in every person, every moment of the day.

One of my better examples...

I was robbed at gun point by two guys.  That equals bad in almost anyone's assessment.  I won't get into the details...will blog about that eventually on AR and break down the different things I learned from it that apply to real estate.

But for the purposes of here and now, the experience, although not a "good" one, gave me a field presence that eventually led to me convincing three guys that tried to mug me to walk me back to my apartment safely and not take a dime from me.

Be present.  Learn from the experience -- the people you come into contact with -- even if they seem to be absolute adversaries or enemies.  There's always a truth somewhere in the moment.

This post reminds me of my teaching days when the kids in class would sometimes complain to me about another teacher. "We don't like her, She's so boring." They said things to that effect and I always responded that it wasn't important if they liked her or not. The fact was that if she was licensed to be a teacher and in front of the classroom, then there was definitely something she could teach them that they probably didn't know, even if that something was only how not to act a certain way.

Hi Gary,

Cute picture!  It is very enjoyable getting to meet new people.  It is also very enjoyable learning new things about someone that you already know.
