Easy tips for showing your home

I have been showing several properties as of late to a client of mine.  I have to say that I am embarrassed to bring my client into some of the homes because they are such a mess.  I realize that we all get into a hurry upon leaving home, but really…..if your house is on the market and you want to sell it, put your home’s best foot forward.

Here are some tips that will take little effort and just take a few minutes of your time.

Put the dishes in the dishwasher or quickly wash them and put them away.

Make the beds – even if it is just pulling the sheets and comforter up over the bed and pillows.

Wipe down counters and mirrors in the bathroom.

Wipe down counters in the kitchen.

Empty the garbage.

Hide dirty clothes in the washer or hamper.

Run a quick vacuum over all floors.

Now, this should not take the place of de-cluttering your home and having good curb appeal – the items that REALTORS® usually ask of their listing clients.  Show that you take pride in your home and that the potential buyer will too when they move their belongings into the home.

I saw an item that was impressive while showing a home the other day too and I thought I would share it with you.  The homeowner had left a note on the inside of the front door telling the prospective buyers what she loved about the home.  It was a list of about 10 items.  It made the buyer go back and take another look at the home.  What a great idea to let someone in on the little secrets of your home!
