Why do people hate us so much??

By
Real Estate Agent with Windermere Real Estate

A few days ago, I was browsing on Craigslist, and I came across this ad…  Just read this ad!  What has our industry done to make some people despise us so much??  Perhaps some very ignorant and perhaps rude agents have called these people in the past…. But the first part of their ad was written with such venom, it makes you wonder!!

I’d love to hear comments…. Have you ever converted a FSBO like this into a listing?  Perhaps some agent in SLC who works that area will see this as a challenge, and go after them!

UPDATE:

Thanks to Toni Ellis for saving this listing - Since it was flagged, you can't see it at the craigslist link.  You can see it at Toni's link:

Thanks for all your comments...

i had a call this week on 1 of my spec houses.. and after giving more information than needed, the husband got on the phone and said he bought alot of homes and didnt want to deal with the realtor,or buyers agent.., but only wanted to work with the builder!!!  i said to him , that there is not a speck house or piece of ground that is not attached to A REALTOR in this area,, i dont know other state laws ,but doesnt he have to have a buyers agent agreement signed by a realtor in order to write a contract to purchase..??....  i wanted to giggle............>>>>>>>>>smiles

So i read the ad in question, which I thought was rather decently done (i've seen a lot worse in the MLS descriptions in my recent home browsings)... I guess I am at a complete loss over the good majority of the comments here.... The range of sarcastic to downright rude to this seller, and her property, and all this gloating that the ad was removed... What the hell is wrong with the 100 or so of these freaking realtors on this board who commented on this? Just how deaf and blind are you where a simple request to respect someone's wishes to privacy are completely ignored? I tell you what, if I were her after this treatment, i would think that realtors are the scummiest of scum... No means no, and yes, it is violation of this person's emotional space when that request is not granted. If i was pestered to this degree - by any 'so called professional' with the world owes me a conversation attitude - i'd lose it on the whole bloody profession.

I love this post.   This is one seriously ticked off person.  I have a feeling that some of the 20 agents who called her are somewhat responsible for her wrath.

I do think that this seller would be smarter to reject offers of service in a less nasty manner.  In this very competitive market, agents have a lot of choices, and we do look to listed homes first.

If I had a buyer who might like her home, I'd wonder what she would be like in negotiating and I might put her at the bottom of a very long list of listings.

One reason I think the public hate us is something we over promise and under deliever.  The public don't like that.

In every industry there are folks that don't do a good job.  The challenge we face is to offer value to the customer.  Once we do that, we establish a level of respect for ourselves and our occupation.  Forget about the folks that are bitter towards realtors and focus on who you can help and everything will take care of itself.

I'd be angry too if agents can't read and/or comprehend instructions.  I don't think there's a real question as to why people hate agents, you're post just answered that.

Who don't people hate? There are people that think doctors are absurdly overpaid, lawyers are evil liars, politicians are crooks, movie stars are overpaid and immoral, accountants are boring, Americans are infidels, football stars are overpaid and stupid, and the police plant evidence to frame people.

You simply can't please all the people all the time, so no reason to worry over it.

I can't imagine someones life being so empty that their heart is filled with contempt for real estate agents, of all people.

My personal experience with craigslist.com is very bad. I had tried it first when i was about to shift in los-angeles. But I was not able to find anapartment of my choice even after searching for 10 days. Then one of my friend advised me to try for westsiderentals.com and that worked for me. I got my apartment in just 3 days aftergetting registering with them.

I guess I won't call her to see if I can get the listing.  Are listing that valuable right now?  I  would rather work with a buyer.

There are way too many people out there that still have a misconception on how much time and energy goes into being successful and how we are constantly on a roller coaster ride.  I don't think John Q. Public will ever understand unless they have been there and done that.
