You Wouldn't WANT to See Where We Place Your Link

"The content we write for you is not professional nor grammatically correct so we don't let you see where we've placed your link"

Are you kidding me?! Bad link building content

I literately heard this from a potential client this week that had gone with another SEO company. They repeatedly informed the client that they have been placing link building articles off-site but won't tell him where or give him the link to the page. When asked why, they replied that the content is not grammatically correct and not good content; it's just to add a link out there.

Okay, Stop right there.

Why would you ever want your link on some low-quality, content farm with bad spelling and grammar?

I mentioned that the reason for that is, IF the articles even exist, is that they outsource the content to places that don't know our language, grammar, spelling, or our business, for that matter.

Good SEO is about building a great online presence. Every page, whether it's link building or informational should be good content; quality content that someone would actually learn from. When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter where the lead comes from, as long as you get the lead. Good content building happens by offering quality, unique content on a variety of platforms and websites, all linking back to the source. Guest blogging is fine, so long as it's good content. If people are writing for just for the sake of words on a page, fire them right now!

We write for a variety of businesses and industries yet all the content we produce is written either by us, or the very small team of writers that we employ. Each is a skilled writer with knowledge of their industry. We write about content that is meant to be found! Every post we write, whether it's for us or someone else is meant to offer some helpful information.

Don't lower your standards when it comes to the reputation of your website. Google is watching and so are your clients.

Tammy- I find it hard to imagine that any business would choose to have a link that was of poor grammar and spelling.

Teral, yup, he did. He was convinced after I just talked him about it. It seemed like, oh yeah! Ha.. he's calling me when his contract runs out.. (AND THAT'S ANOTHER THING.....) stupid contracts. LOL

Kathy, it's amazing that they would have the nerve to say that!

I think I'm going to start using that... "Google is watching"!! You are right content need to be of worth to the reader. I still have much to learn about this myself.

I understand exactly what you're saying, Tammy. The problem is that people who do not understand SEO, don't understand the negative ramifications of what you are describing. They don't understand that, poor grammar and link farming sites actually negatively impact you. But the biggest thing, I think, is that people don't keep in the forefront of their mind that everything we do impacts our reputation. The question we should be asking is, Will the potential client who sees my business name on one of these sites be impressed with me?" If not, don't do it!

Wow, what a statement... essentially they said, "the content we provide is so poor and the sites we link to so pointless we don't even bother to document them."

Yes it does Sabrina, you never know where a lead might come from.

Emcee, Absolutely! It is hard to grasp sometimes but if you think it through it just makes sense. Make everything you do online be a positive reflection of you and your business.

Nancy, That's EXACTLY what they are saying.. oy vey!

Is that what people mean when they refer to "link farms."  What a disaster.

Margaret, this is probably just a content farm. Not a list of links but a collection of poorly written content - page after page.

Oh my, Tammy.  Why would anyone farm out there SEO work to an off shore company that has no idea how our language works?  I recently read some of these offerings, and anyone with a brain would know that someone who is familiar with our language did not write it.

We try so hard not to create blogging errors, typos, spelling errors... why would we tolerate it from someone we are paying???  Makes no sense!

James, thanks. IT's amazing what I come across.

Hannah, HA.. thanks!

Liz and Bill, possibly! Ugh.. irritating.. stop cluttering the comments! HA

Mike, Most people just don't realize what SEO companies are doing. If it sounds good, then it must BE good.

Kathy, Exactly.

Bobbie, It really is sad. Good SEO people get the same treatment as the scum.. I know, I've experienced it.

Grant, Well, yes you would think they would. The thing is, they don't last long and eventually you will get penalized for having your link on bad sites.

Pam, Feel free, anytime. A Back link is just a link out in Internet land for your site linking back to it. If you have a link on your ActiveRain blog to your website, that's a back link. Too many bad ones can really harm your site.

Hi Tammy, It's always interesting to read all the various comments on your post, since they are jsut as informative as the post itself. Mike made an excellent observation above in comment #15. One would need to be very selective in who is doing the SEO for them for sure.
