I heard this story from Orlando area broker a few years ago. It was about an acquaintance of his, who said he was looking for a home, and then he described the home: the area, size, age, views, number of bedrooms, bathrooms, countertops, garage…
The broker lined up homes to look at, but they were not impressed and then decided to wait. A few months later he learned they bought a house. They saw a sign, knocked on the door, and ended up buying the house.
The broker said It was in different area, 2-bedroom instead of 3-bedroom, no granite, no garage…. It was not what they were asking. But they bought it and they were excited.
What does all this 3/2, 2,000 sf home, granite countertops, crown moldings, 2-car garage, stainless steel appliances, impact resistant windows tell us about a home? Or it is simply the cliché?
Does having all these features in a house mean that this is a perfect house for your client? Isn’t it like telling a girl longing for love that her future partner should be with two legs and two arms, (and sometimes a head)? Very unique description, isn't it? What about love, what about this magic spark?
The art of selling is in understanding it and looking beyond just a 3-bedr/2-bath home, but for the one that can trigger that magic spark.
Don't believe them when they tell you that they are looking for a house.
They are longing for a home.
