Have you Noticed? So many interesting technology tools and people on the Rain!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Homes Arizona Real Estate LLC

As I visit various blog posts, I can't help but notice the interesting information either shared, or listed on the right side:

Widgets, technology toolsWidgets, bloglog communities, technorati, LinkedIn, Truila, Ning, Flickr, postlets, Snapshots, Meez, Slideshows, Photobucket, 411.com, RedKid.net, ImageChef, Ziki, etc.! Then there are the longtail words!  Is there anything I missed?

I have to admit that I've been curious on many occasions, visited the widget, or whatever, and decided: "yeah, that's for me."  So I signed up. Now, I have each of the above either on my blog or I've signed up. I still haven't figured out all of the ins and outs, but that'll come - in due time.

There is so much useful information here on Active Rain contributed by those in the "know." I have learned more than I can begin to describe. I would list some of the names here, but suffice it to say, there are quite a few - some of whom I've not even discovered yet. ;-) Where else could we find such great resources in one place. Active Rain is GREAT!!!

Courtesy of FlickrRecently, I decided to add to my list of subscribees.....I would choose someone who had visited and commented on one of my posts, look at what they had to say on their profile as well as their blog posts, or I would visit a random post and do the same, or I would choose from a featured post. With so many onboard, I decided I needed to add to my subscribe list. I'm up to 72 from about 50 a week or so ago. You see? I want to get to know more of the people on Active Rain.

Since my time seems so limited, I notice that I continue to visit those bloggers who:

  1. post shorter posts or have more "air"
  2. include photos
  3. post localism posts
  4. are friends
  5. reciprocate
  6. are entertaining

I think it helps narrow down those of us who are on the same page. It's like weeding out friends in our day to day lives. We might have many acquaintenances;  however, they are not the ones I call each day, or have dinner with, or visit frequently. I think the same rings true of those we respond to here.

I am also making an effort to better contribute to or comment to the posts I visit. I've decided I like that better, than "thanks!"

Okay, gotta keep this short.......;-)

Teri - I hear you - there are only so many hours in a day and only so much that works for each of us... I am not seeing your lady for some reason today.

Teri,

No problem. Thanks for the other sites that you blogged about also. There is a lot out there.

I think a lot of it is eyewash.  There is a difference between gadgets and tools.  I think most of these are of the garden variety of novelties!    Also, some of them may be counter productive.  I recently tried one (I will not disclose which one) and my site was penalized by Google.  Page #1 of my site was removed from indexing for 45 days!  I will use these items sparingly unless you have a specific purpose and task for them!

Teri - I like your list of 6. I tend to do the same. It is tough to read really long posts when you are limited on time. I truly appreciate a short, but concise post with a photo or two. Thanks for being a #4 & #5.

Teri- Short sweet and to the point....or air and pictures....I would say this pretty much says it all.  I love words, but many times less is more :)

Thesa, she's there? You can't find her? Yes, you're right ... only 24 hours a day, and it's a GOOD thing! ;-)

Elliott: thanks again! ;-) Yes, there IS a lot out there.

So, Jim: I want to know which one? ;-)  Just kidding. I agree, and only really use them on this venue for the most part. Thanks for coming by.

Hi Teri,

Great post I agree with all 6 of your points on which blogs I read!

Teri, I have signed up for many of those also.  We had to reformat my computer last week and I ended up back at an old favorites setting and lost the connection to part of them.  At some point someone will probably ask to join my network to whatever and I will find them again.

Back to Active Rain; it is an evolving process, isn't it?

Teri: I find the most interesting Widgets on the right side of the AR posts. If its a new one I either visit right away or make a note to visit later. I do have to wonder though is there such a thing as too many widgets?

I've become a big fan of quite a few tools I've heard about on the rain. I also will find myself making comments even if I've exceeded the maximum for the day- this being a case in point. I also prefer the"airy" posts myself- which no one would guess ... especially as I just posted something that breaks that rule. Oh well, always learning.

I look forward to seeing your kimono lady in red comments around the rain...you brighten up the comment section :)  I have weeded out groups, subscribed etc...  hard to keep up and if there are ones that fade away...no sense having to weed through all of those too. We all have our preferences I suppose and for me it's gotten down to clicking...checking it out...moving on if it doesn't interest me or nothing to comment.

Hey John, thanks so much. I also forgot to mention Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and I'm sure more.

Marchel, it's definitely an evolving process......constantly evolving. What name will they think of next? ;-)

Jill, meeeeeeee tooooooo. I think if you drop by Brad Andersohn's blog, you might notice quite a few of his widgets. Sometimes it takes awhile to upload them all.

Chuck, there you are again. I exceed comments most days - unless of course, I'm too busy. Airy is good.

Teri,
I'm on the same page as you....I continue to add, weed out and I think it probably is an on-going process.   But, there are some friends that are keepers for sure!

Oh no...My post are so long. :(

I completely understand though...I write for localism so the information gets wordy. I tend to skim others posts for the gist of the message and comment.

There are only so many hours in a day and new good bloggers join every day too.

So much to learn...So little time...And real estate to sell!

Teri, your posts are always good though. They're Localism posts, mostly, so that's what your consumers will want to know. I've used your example on my Localism posts. Good to see you.

Great post Teri- I almost cannot remember life before Active Rain and all the cool sites/gadgets I've learned about here! I like to "surf" the Rain, but some days its hard to find posts to add meaningful comments to... then, I just head to my list of "faithfuls!" I have picked up so many great tips from you, Lenn, Sally and a handful of others - thank you!

Teri, thank you so much......yes, to the two Teri E's success in posting to Localism! ;-)

Debbie, thank you, thank you. I enjoyed writing it, and love Active Rain. So much stuff to learn about, heh? You're right about the surfing bit. I'm adding and deleting almost every day now. Lenn and Sally are each a great resource for information. Lenn's posts on Localism are amazing. Thanks for coming by.
