How many times do you find yourself reacting with an initial response of "Really"? We all do it. Is it a defensive response or just an attempt to ignore something? We are, by nature easily consumed by the excuses we can create. The next time you find yourself in this situation do not be consumed by the statement: "I don't think it is in my nature!"

In my business I see the "REALLY" situations all the time. I just have to call it as I see it and move on. Then the sellers are saying it. "REALLY" I can't believe the inspector called that.

Guilty as charged. Sure I have done it, for me a kind of knee jerk reaching to something saying something stupid.
I see it and admit to saying it frequently. I suspect it's an opportunity to give my brain pause in an attempt to wrap some kind of adaptation approach to it... Or just bathe in the bafflement of the stupidity for a moment. ;)
Wayne, I do this fairly regularly. I don't think this is such a bad trait as it keeps me for falling for a lot of stuff that just isn't true.
I like REALLY so much better than WHATEVER. One is a question and the other is an abdication. I will always go for a good question over just giving up.

Hmmmm, I don't know if I do this or not - but now I am going to be paying attention to see if (and how often) "really" comes to mind!
When I find myself saying "really?" out loud to someone, I'm expecting an explanation from them.
