A combination of the sheer force of curiosity and numbers “boomers” and older adults can set in motion a home design recalibration.
A dwelling design that serves - regardless of age or physical ability- can work across many generations. Is this a trend?Heads-up!The “boomers” are coming- the “boomers” are coming.
At least one aspect known as “aging-in-place” is getting to be a big deal these days. It is significant -and relevant - and quite possibly fueled by the very human desire most of us share-
to remain as independent as possible in a lifelong home.
The appeal is real: An easy-to-get-around-in place -universal design elements (both functional and gorgeous) that can benefit those who live there. I like to think that, at the heart of it all, designing for enduring excellence simply makes sense. The outcome can translate “aging-in place” to “Aging in PALACE©”
I’m not alone. According to the National Association of Home Builders, a burgeoning older adult and “boomer” population by that sheer force of curiosity and numbers has an eye on the horizon.Recently, I got the bug to look into this for clients here in Asheville- Here are a few of my findings and a
quick peek into Home Design 2020 (or sooner.)
