The City of Cape Canaveral celebrated it's 50th Anniversary on Sat. Mar. 23, 2013. The event was held in Manatee Park and featured Native American Dancers, craft and BBQ food vendors, bounce houses, live music and a car show. Events are planned throughout the year and will have different themes celebrating the history of the City.

Very colorful and I'm sure a lot of work to make.

My sliding Grandkids. They even spotted a dolphin in the Banana River Lagoon. Then it was off to the beach!

Colorful pictures to represent this important milestone in Cape Canaveral's 50th Anniversary.  It truly seems just like yesterday that I heard that name for the first time.  So many exhilarating events began there!

Thanks Myrl - The end of the shuttle program dealt us a blow but the Cape is alive and recovering like it always has. Unmanned launches are happening all the time and tourism has picked up along with home sales.

The eastern part of Sacramento County suffered when aerospace giant, Aerojet, had cutbacks in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  Then all of our county took a catastrophic blow in the 1980s when we endured the closure of 3 military bases.  What has happened since then has been for the best.  Our economy is far more diversified now, with more high tech and other jobs.  Therefore no one sector has a monopoly on jobs.  Now when we lose a sector, we aren't as harmed.  The wonderful thing about Florida and the Cape is you have that special climate and environment.  Other enterprise will likely come to your area, and you will recover!

Thanks for the optimism and good cheer Myrl. New homes are being built again and construction workers and tradesmen are keeping busy again. It will take a while but it's a good sign.
