Anyone buying a new home is probably moving from an old one. But no matter how many times you move, it never hurts to go over the basics of planning. Here's a quick guide that's a good place to start.

If moving day is just around the corner, it's time to decide whether to make the move yourself, or hire a professional moving company to do it for you.
If you want to save money, the do-it-yourself option may be the best one for you. But first, ask yourself some important questions. Do you have friends who are willing and able to help you move? Do you have access to a vehicle that can accommodate your furniture and fragile items? Do you have enough time?
Remember that your friends should be strong enough to help with heavy loads like couches and beds, and also conscientious enough to take extra care with precious heirlooms and breakable objects. To avoid "burning out" your helpers with multiple trips, rent a truck large enough to handle everything in one move.
If you're moving a long distance, you can avoid some of the cost of professional movers by hiring only load and unload help. Some companies will rent you the "muscle" to take your belongings from your old house to the truck and then back into your new house. All you have to do is pack, drive the truck and unpack after everything has been put into your new home.
Another options is to rent a "container" or "POD" that is dropped off at your house. You load it at your convenience, then it is either picked up and delivered to new location or stored until you are ready.
POD (Portable On Demand) moving containers are trailor sized crates that are dropped off at your property and left there for you to load up your personal property. Once loading is completed and you are ready to move, the POD will be picked up (or temporarily placed in storage until you are ready), then delivered to your new property for unloading. The containers' doors are set level to the ground so you don't have to climb up or down to load. They come in lengths of 12' or 16', the larger holds approximately 1600 square feet of property items. If you have a larger building, then just use 2 or more PODS to hold the entire contents as needed.

Remember, moving is always a stressful time. If you do it yourself, arrange for help at both ends of the move and be sure your truck is large enough for all your belongings. If this just isn't possible, consider spending the extra money on professional movers.
