Gotta say this....yes I do watch some of the "staging" shows on TV..the other night while flipping the channels I was taken aback when I stopped to view a show where someone had "flipped" a home and the Realtor was doing his final walk thru. The "flipper" was so pleased with himself, telling the Realtor and those of us in TVLand that he had done the "Staging" . I think that the Realtor right then and there should have said...WHOA there big guy, you may want to stick to flipping and leave the staging to the professionals... What got my attention was when he was so proudly showing off the master bath, right there before my eyes...burgundy, YES you read correctly, burgundy !!! A burgundy toilet seat cover, tank cover and matching toilet rug, you know the kind that has the cut out for the bottom of the bowl ? Oh and then he didn't stop there, there were burgundy and white striped towels, WAIT it gets better, yes you guessed it, fake greenery all over the place. Am I wrong, you don't do that, do you ??? Have I missed something ? The really scarey part is that this was a new showing, it was taped recently. I guess that someone somewhere thought that it looked good, but it was not staging...Me Bad ???? That is why people who see shows such as that one think that they can stage their own homes for sale.
Luckily here my homeowner clients agreed to replace their 'lovingly worn' blue plastic toilet seat...
I have to admit though, we had those plastic seats growing up and they were darn comfortable - well, until they got a crack in them! Ouch...
Andrea: Yuk !! I don't even want to think about what caused the stains...
Joanne: Thanks goodness that the homeowner allowed you to change out the shower curtain also.
Aloha Mary Lou,
You thought you were watching home improvement but what a horror show, yuck! Night of the living germ receptacles.
Peace,
I am amazed at how often I still run across these while doing consults. The worst part is that usually they have just purchased them!! Our job of educating is far from over. . . .

PERSONALLY I LOVE THE TOILET COVERS. A TOILET IS SO UGLY SITTING THERE STARK NAKED TO ME. I LOVE THE CLASSY LOOK OF THE TOILET BEING COVERED IN MATCING COLOR OF YOUR BATH MATS. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE TRULY CARES ABOUT HOW THEIR BATHROOM LOOKS. JUST MY OPINION AND I AM STAYING WITH THE CLASSY COVERS.
I GUESS INDIVIDUALISM IS GONE. THIS HAS BECOME THE "DO AS I SAY" ERA. WELL I BELIEVE IN MYSELF AND MY IDEAS. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE SAYS THIS IS THE WAY TO GO, IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST WAY. JUST MARCH TO THE DRUMMER, NO WAY, THAT KILLS GOOD IDEAS. COM'ON SHEEP, THINK FOR YOURSELF.TOILET COVERS FOR ME, YEAH!
WOW! i never knew these things were out of style until i started redecorating after a recent move. there i was looking for my mathcing rug, toilet rug and toilet seat cover...only problem was, all the high end stuff didn't include all three, just the rug itself.
i did a little bit of internet research and what do you know! i've been "out of style" all this time. i watch a bit of hgtv and flip this house, etc., but they never mentioned this.....who knew?!!
Well, well, unending surprises when one surfs the "net". I just found this site and all I can say is, "very interesting". Do I or do I not like commode covers? Depends on the era I guess. Right now I do. Just a few years back I didn't. All depends on how I feel at the moment I guess. I also have real and artifical plants in my bathrooms. I like them. Whatever makes me happy on any given day is what I use. Whether it's out of style or not. :-)
