What is Sustainability?

In Dallas, I am discovering that homebuyers and homebuilders are becoming more interested in finding ways to meet their homebuilding and remodeling needs, while conserving natural resources and preserving the environment.  The words sustainable and sustainability are often used interchangeably with such terms as "eco-friendly" and "green." People interested in sustainability are using products and resources that are least harmful to the natural environment.  In addition, they are finding ways to reuse natural resources such as water, and finding creative new uses for reclaimed materials. There seems to be a growing consciousness about conserving resources for future generations.

This falls in line with your blog about the insulation.  I think I'll be doing more research on eco-friendly products.

Sharon,

Do you have a good resource on what eco-friendly products are recommended for older homes and the cost/benefits to using them?  It seems all of us have sustained maintenance needs, and if an eco-friendly product exists to make your home more efficient, it makes sense to use it.
