3 Deaths This Week, 1 Death 2000 Yrs. Ago Make Good Friday Meaningful
by Michelle Carr Crowe
It's been a rough week, with three deaths-a man, a woman and a beloved pet.
One of my husband's teammates on the South Bay Stallions (who is also a friend of my oldest daughter and her boyfriend and circle of friends) passed away in a tragic boating accident this week. My prayers go out to the family of Stefan Fowler, age 26.
My best friend's mother Concepcion Guerrero also passed away. A creative spirit, she spent her last few decades teaching and passing on her Aztec and Mexican culture to many students. Carol and everyone connected to Connie, I pray God's peaace comforts you.
Yesterday my youngest daughter found my kitty Kimba dead. A beautiful flame-point partially deaf Siamese, Kimba was an odd one. Sometimes he was totally friendly, other times totally skittish. However our family and his companion kitties will miss him.
Today is Good Friday, a day of contemplating the message and meaning and price of our salvation and eternal life paid for by our savior Jesus Christ on the cross. He was condemned and killed for my sins (and those of all people of the world) and rose again that all who accept his free gift will live forever with Him in heaven.
I know not everyone believes animals live on in heaven. However I believe the God of creation who made all living beings here on earth would also extend His gifts into heaven as well, as all will be even better there than here.
Lord Jesus, Father God and Holy Spirit, I thank you for the price paid today on Good Friday. Even as I, my friends and family mourn Stefan Fowler, Concepcion Guerrero and Kimba, I thank God through my tears that we can meet again in heaven. It's that fact that makes the 3 Deaths This Week, 1 Death 2000 Yrs. Ago that Make Good Friday Meaningful.
