What Is the Real Estate Tech Review?

OK.  I'll admit it.  I'm a gadget geek.  I'm also an engineer by education, an improviser by background, and tinkerer by genes.  Can you imagine how difficult it is, with that background, to commit the act of real estate without a briefcase loaded to the gills with toys of the profession?

And I've got a rock-solid rationale why every single one of those gadgets is absolutely critical to success in real estate.  (wink)

Many of my local colleagues in real estate have often asked me about various gadgets, how well they work, how to use them, performance reviews, etc.  So, I thought it might be fun to start sharing some of what I've learned about these gadgets, and what one can accomplish with them (or waste time with frivolous gimmicks, as the case may be).  We'll start examining these gadgets one at a time, so you can decide whether to shop or chuckle.

laser distance measurerGadget Review #1:  Laser Distance Measurer

I bought this tool through Amazon on December 13, 2011.  It's been one of my best investments to support my real estate business.  Here is what I've learned about this trusty friend:

Pro's
  - Accurate (I've checked it.  It's closer than nearly any normal tape measurement.)
  - One-handed (No need for a friend to hold "the dumb end of the tape")
Also, I can operate it with left hand while handwriting dimensions with my right hand.
  - Long battery life.  (Months!)
  - Vertical too:  Stand it on it's butt, then it measures ceiling and doorway heights.

Con's
  - Audible 'click' signal of measurement taken is too quiet
  - Keypad is a bit clumsy when juggling other items, but it does work
  - It would have been so easy for Bosch to have it calculate room length x width = square feet.
  - Cost: $100.  I guess it's the name brand's value?

Would I buy another one?  Yes!

 thumbs up
