Showing a 1916 classic front-porch Colonial - like I did in Mount Rainier, MD last weekend - is usually a treat for me. I'll have my camera ready to snap some pictures of original details and will always wonder ... if these walls could talk.
Although our showing was rather disappointing - that happens when the listing remarks don't match the actual showing condition - I could look beyond the hodgepodge of styles, deferred maintenance and various oddities and admired the few charming details that were left in place: some interior doors & molding, hardware, the claw-foot tub and wood floors.
It takes a lot of vision and much more than just "stylistic decor" as the listing remarks stated but I hope this classic front-porch Colonial in the historic district of Mount Rainier, MD will be found by someone who has all that and then some.
Someone who understands that those old walls are much more than just plaster. Someone who understands that it used to be somebody's home. Somebody who understands that dreams were once dreamed in its bedrooms, family gatherings held in its dining room, stories told on its front porch and games played in its back-yard.
A 1916 classic front-porch Colonial For Sale in Mount Rainier - I hope the right buyer will hear its desperate plea: restore me!
