WOW...You are an ambitious person.

The answer is Maybe!

First off, most likely you will be using what is called a sand point which is for shallow wells only.

Can you install a well like this.  It depends.

1)Locality for one.  The governing body may not allow shallow wells in the area.

2) In some areas where permitted, you can install a shallow well yourself for non-potable water.  (Lawn and garden use).

3) Many places you can't use a shallow well for drinking water.  So a deep well is needed and special equipment is needed.

I understand you wanting to save water...but it really depends on the use and the area you are wanting to do this in.  I suggest you call your local zoning office and ask for the rules in that area.

Interesting considerations on water wells Bill. When I lived in Florida they were everywhere. In my part of Texas the ground is too hard with the clay.

This is great advice, William. A shallow well can be handy for water the yard and gardens, but always check to see what the local regulations are.

Always consult with an area expert and do the necessary due diligence to avoid future problems! I would not want to take something like this on myself Bill.

Many farms have shallow wells for watering live stock.  Much of the water really isn't good to drink.

In my area you can instll a shallow well yourself for non-potable waters.  Not as easy as it sounds.

I have pounded in a new well or two in my life.  It is ok for non potable waters.
