It was opening day for Chicagoland baseball fans with the White Sox, beating the Kansas City Royals, 1-0, in their home opener. This sporting rite of spring brings jubilation to baseball enthusiasts and helps wash away their winter doldrums.
No winter doldrums in the sales activity of some of the Chicago real estate market. It has been both frustrating and exhilarating to call for showings and be told time after time that the properties had gone under contract only hours before. Frustrating because the buyer's first choices were no longer available to them, but exhilarating because it added credence to the fact that if you like it then you better put and offer on it.
(Sorry, had a Beyonce moment there.)
Chicago's "spring market" tends to pick up after Super Bowl Sunday. This year, the 2013 spring market seems to be a continuation of the uptick that begain in the fall, around October 2012. Activity quieted a bit around the holidays but then picked up again in January. Open house activity has been strong. Some of those visiting buyers have stepped up to the plate, pre-approvals at the ready, pitching their best offers and running the bases of the transaction strong towards their new home.
