HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHLEEN
Today is my daughter Kathleen's Birthday. Twenty-seven years ago at 6:01am my 8 pound baby girl entered into my world and filled my heart with joy. I am a very lucky mom! I remember the day like it was yesterday. My brother kept calling the day before and wanted to know if I was going to have an April Fools Day baby. I told him absolutely not! My little girl was smart enough to know not to pop out as he would tease her every day of her life. So she waited until after midnight to let me know that it was time. She hurried out a few hours after midnight (thank you Kathleen) and was happy to escape the wrath of an Uncle that would have enjoyed the teasing way too much.
Kathleen always enjoyed her birthday as a small child. We had some interesting themed parties, and my very favorite was her 8th birthday party. When it was time to order her cake and figure out what to do, I asked her what she wanted. Kathleen has always been a creative child and true to form that year she had given her birthday quite a bit of thought. "Let's do World Peace this year Mom". Okay?!? So the cake was just what you think. It had a picture of earth with people of all colors holding hands. We invited some friends that came and made flower arrangements for an Earth Day take on being nice to the planet. If nothing else, explaining the cake to our baker was entertaining. The party was fun and the kids loved talking about peace. Yes, they did talk about peace as the cake started the conversation.
My little girl is now a woman and while some things about her have changed others have not. She still loves her "Birthday Month" and puts on a party dress. She still embraces work on saving the world and is now working to help AIDS victims on a more Global scope in her daily profession. To say that I am a proud mom would be an understatement at best.
I love how blogging gives me the opportunity to share this with everyone. Blogging gives me the opportunity to share with the world what a happy day this is for me.
