House Warming Party

When I close on a home with my buyers, I like to offer to throw them a house warming party.  I enjoy entertaining and it is a great way to close things out with my clients.  I also get an opportunity to meet their friends.  Here is a copy of how I set the party up:

We are about to close on your new HOME!  I would like to throw you a house warming party.  I will take care of inviting your family and friends, provide food and drinks, serve the food and drinks and then bid you farewell.

If you would like to have me throw you a party you need to make some decisions. First of all please tell me two dates that would work for you.  Be sure to allow your self enough time to get unpacked, but not too much time that everyone would have already been to your house by than (maybe 3 to 6 weeks after you close). ________ or________ I'll let you know which of the two days works for me.

What time would you like your party to start?  4pm___or 6pm___ Great!  I will send out evites, mail invitations or both.  Please email me a list of your friend and family with their names, emails and/or addresses as soon as you can!  Invite as many people as you want (or your house can hold). Oh yeah, if you want to register for gifts somewhere, let me know so I can add that to the invitations.

OK, the last order of business.  Would you like me to provide beer, wine, soda, ice tea and appetizers____ or BBQ'd beef and chicken, some side dishes and ice tea____?    That wasn't so hard, was it?  On the day of your party expect me to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the party starts.  I'll set everything up, serve the food and stick around for about 1 to 1 ½ hours.  Than I will leave you to enjoy your friends and your new home!

I love this idea, Jess. When I was in the yacht sales biz we did a similar thing -- and people loved it.

I think that's a good idea.  What a great way to get new prospects.  Now...the problem would be if they are new to the area.  Would you invite the neighbors or what?

I've done this and with in about 3 months, another party had to be thrown!

Not everyone wants a house warming party.  And it may not work for new folks, but you could have them wait a couple of months until they meet people at their new job to have the party.

This is very smart to do for any client.  I might sponge off this idea if it is OK.  I am sure many people than ask questions like ow is the market.

Jess - Great idea on throwing a house warming party for your closing gift! I like it, being that I enjoy entertaining, I had never thought about this. Fantastic idea to explore. Thanks for the tip. I love it!  Please tell me you're NOT actually doing a barbecue, but bringing the already prepared foods with you.  I would tend to go overboard and DO the cooking, so I like your idea of just keeping it simple and then leaving.  If they're new to the area, you could invite your own friends!  haha
