Party for Parks in Evergreen, Colorado Friday April 5 6-10pm
There were a number of amenities that attracted my husband and me when we made our decision to move to Colorado six years ago from Missouri. One biggie for us was the abundance of parks and open spaces. In fact, we live in a neighborhood right now that backs up to the Flying J Ranch Open Space - filled year-round with hikers, bikers, joggers as well as snowshoers and sledders in the winter co-habitating with deer, fox, coyote and even a bear or two.
I was thrilled when I discovered this great event - "Party for Parks: Celebrating A Century of Protected Places to Play" - it's a unique opportunity to honor the triple birthdays of Denver Mountain Parks, Jefferson County Open Space and Great Outdoors Colorado, 100, 40 and 20 years, respectively.
What’s significant is that together, these organizations have preserved over 62,000 acres of public parks that are the closest foothills and mountain park experience to the largest population center in our state - the Denver Metro area. They are the catalyst for connecting youth and families to the outdoors to foster the next generation of conservationists.
The event will feature fun entertainment, food, drinks, socializing and lively auctions at the Red Rocks Amphitheater Visitors' Center to raise funds for the Jeffco Outdoors Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Tickets are $50/person and can be purchased at jeffcooutdoors.org or by calling (303) 271-5934. Through a grant program of the Foundation, support will be provided to parks and conservation organizations in efforts to get the most at-risk children and families outdoors.
