As of 2013, Ric Stowe owns the most expensive property in Australia. Stowe made his money in oil and cattle. His house is on a 2700 hectare estate outside of Perth. On this property, Stowe has five houses, two swimming pools, a polo field, two helipads, and even a private airstrip. Appraisers have valued this property as worth $69 million. Stowe is trying to sell the property to pay off his company’s debts, but so far has not found a buyer. His advisers are starting to wonder whether this property is just too large for one person and may split the land into smaller lots for sale.
Perth’s Most Expensive Property
The second most expensive property in Australia is in the city of Perth. This mansion is in Monson Park on the riverside and recently sold for $57.5 million. The property spreads over 7567 sq. meters of riverfront land. It has three separate homes, a boathouse, a private jetty, a gym, a pool, and a tennis court.
Sydney’s Most Expensive Property
In Sydney, the most expensive property is a beautiful European style villa near the Harbour Bridge. This house is on the market for about $56 million. The entire property is 900 sq. meters and has three floors, five bedrooms, six bathrooms. The house also has a gym, sauna, heated pool, marble floors, and staff quarters. Surprisingly for the price, this home is not located on the waterfront. However, it does provide a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge.
Close behind this house is another mansion in Point Piper that is on the market for about $55 million. Point Piper is the most expensive suburb in Australia so this listing isn’t surprising.
Most Expensive Property in Melbourne
Melbourne also has its share of mega mansions. Currently, the most expensive home on the market is a 22-room mansion for $30 million. If this house sells at that price, it would be a record sale for Melbourne. The most expensive property in Melbourne though could be still under construction.
Last year, billionaire heir Daniel Besen began construction of his new home. Just the land alone on his property is worth $10 million. He plans to spend at least $20 million and over two years building his new home. The property will include three floors, a private art gallery, and a climate-controlled garage. Altogether, this is considered the largest private construction property in the state of Victoria.
