This Old House is My Favorite Magazine!

By
Real Estate Agent

This Old House is my favorite magazine. I've had a subscription for many years and can't wait until each issue shows up in my mailbox. I'm all for decluttering, but I have to admit that I do not throw out my This Old House magazines.

I always start at the very last page and look at the houses featured in the "savethisoldhouse" column. I love reading the histories of the homes, hearing how they've changed hands and looking at the features that can be restored. Then, I flip to the Letter from Scott Omelianuk, the Editor of This Old House magazine. It's always fun to read about his exploits with DIY home renovations and repairs. Sometimes Usually Scott's stories remind me of Tim Allen's adventures as Tim "the toolman" Taylor when he starred on the TV sitcom "Home Improvements".

In between the front and back of the magazine, I read about different home solutions, tips, ideas projects and the latest trends. I get to see inside beautiful homes that have been restored, renovated and expanded. You wouldn't think that would be so fascinating for a Realtor, but it always is!

I love old houses. My family and I live in one from the mid-1800s. The history from an old house is passed along to the next owners. There's an awareness of the previous owners their lives. I love it when we turn up something in the yard that was thrown away over 100 years ago. It's a way to keep the memory of the past alive.

47 North Main Street this old house for sale Sharon MAThat's one of the reasons why I appreciate this old house for sale in Sharon MA at 47 North Main Street. The homeowners have lovingly and meticulously renovated it. (You don't take on these projects without a love for the beauty of an old home). The public records says that the house is from 1900, but the homeowners' research has led them to believe it's from the mid-1800s.

Most of the grand, old homes in Sharon were, unfortunately, torn down decades ago. The house at 47 North Main Street and neighboring houses from the same era, reflect the beauty of the town's past. Many homes were at one time summer hotels or boarding houses.

Restored 100 year old door on 47 North Main Street Sharon 2-family house for sale

The current homeowners of the mid-1800s Victorian home for sale at 47 North Main Street, restored the 100-year-old front door and had the heart pine hardwood flooring removed, restored and relaid throughout the home. Fine craftsmanship is evident in the woodworkiing of the new crown moldings, baseboards and window and door trim with rosettes. Gorgeous solid Cherry cabinetry, window seats and shelving were built in to the Living Room, Dining Room and second floor sitting area.

The top-down renovation of the interior and exterior meant new ceilings and walls, as well as all new copper plumbing and all new electrical wiring. Have you ever wanted to buy an old historical home with the beautiful, high ceilings that open up the feel of the rooms? At 47 North Main Street in Sharon MA, the renovation included 9' ceilings on the 1st floor and 8' ceilings on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

The renovation included the addition of an approximately 1,200 square foot, Townhouse-style apartment and a 2-car garage. It's not that common to find garages with older properties in the center of Sharon. Not only does this restored old home provide a garage, but it's heated, too!

Noah...there are so many gorgeous, old homes out there...lots in your area, too! They all have a story to tell. Did you ever see the show on HGTV "If Walls Could Talk"? That's a favorite of mine, too!

Eric...you can pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble or any major bookstore. If you love old homes, you will absolutely love this magazine!

Hi, Christine! The charm and curb appeal are fantastic. Even better is knowing that everything in this house has been renovated and updated. All the charm without the work!

This is a great post. Suggested. Not only is it informative and aesthetically appealing but it also covers a topic you don't see that often - homes from the mid 1800's that are not necessarily available everywhere in the nation.

Thank you, Jill! Too many towns tore down their gorgeous, historic homes. These beautiful, old homes are what add character to a town. When it's in top condition, as this one is, even better!
