Let me start out by saying I doubt anyone will really comment (and fess up :-) ) on this post, but if you do, I'll know you are a fellow entrepreneur that keeps it real!!!
The 2AM Tossing, Turning Terrors!
Ever have them? I know I do! And yep, I hate 'em! (Yes, hate's a strong word, but a spade's a spade!)
If you know what I am talking about, you're nodding your head right about now. If you don't know what I mean, well...it's the "ACK!!!, WHAT am I doing, HOW am I going to get more business, HOW am I going to find more leads, how am I going to get MORE MONEY, how am I going to pay the mortgage this month" thoughts that creep in in the middle of the night.
For whatever reason, it's always far easier to keep the terrors at bay during the day, but come night time, forget it! They'll keep you awake for hours, won't they?! When I get 'em, I'm usually good for about 2 hours of stewing in them before I am able to fall back to sleep. Yep, I hate that.
Our moms were right...nothing good ever happens after 1AM! But, regardless of one's level of success, I think every entrepreneur has them at some point, and often have them no matter what, come feast or famine. It's part of the "fun" of being an entrepreneur!
I think the one thing that makes it all seem better for me, the thing that calms me down and lets me finally fall back to sleep is the realization that as an entrepreneur, I am in COMPLETE CONTROL of the final outcome. Unlike those who work for others, we do have control over our paycheck and our future. It's not about blaming the economy, or blaming others who bailed on us or otherwise let us down...
We are the ones who have control... external circumstances be darned! Those who work for others are pretty much "stuck" with what they've got...we get to make changes and be better, stronger, more successful...And to me, that makes the sometimes sleepless nights worth it!
It's about accountability. It's about focus. It's about having a solid plan to change the status quo, to make of ourselves and of our businesses what we truly dream. It's about the passion that made us go into business for ourselves in the first place.
But...stiil...I don't know about you, but at 2AM, I would really rather be sleeping... :-)
